Weight loss/back pain vicious cycle - in limbo as requested breast reduction

Bit of an awkward one - I have about 2 stone I want to lose - my diet is now pretty healthy, I enjoy exercise and I love running (although my back says otherwise) I have to wear two sports bras and the pain and discomfort I get during and after have meant me putting a stop on it. However, that has impeded on my weight loss. I have dropped a dress size (14/16) but the scales are still saying the same weight as I was being a size 18/20. I have lots of other issues that my bra size brings and have seen the drs who said they will see what the procedure is now to have a reduction on the nhs as obviously there are cuts. To be honest I don't want to take from the pot but I'm currently job hunting after being made redundant and after 10 years of battling/putting up with it/losing weight (I have lost 3 stone already) I just can't take it anymore. running is ideal as it's free, however now I've taken a hiatus due to the back pain, I'm missing out on the massive benefits it gave me in comparison to other forms of exercise (I like walking but it's not as high impact/cardio) and the back pain is reduced to it's normal annoyance I've come to live with. The dr has implied that I need to lose a bit more weight if I want to be considered but I'm stuck in this situation - and to be honest since I've stopped running I've started finding myself getting really down, bad tempered, not wanting to go out, crying all the time and over nothing. I just want to be healthy and fit and go out with my friends and not feel judged (they're all tiny and have had kids which just makes me feel even worse being the fat single friend). Anyone got any help, or advice as I have a feeling that I'm not going to get much help from the GP.

Hi, sounds like you are really missing the exercising. I wonder if you could run on a different (softer) surface which might help your back? I stay off roads for this reason and I also try not to run on trails all the time.

How about some yoga? Ekhart Yoga/Yogatic have some free videos on their website and loads of free videos on YouTube. And there's the NHS Strength and Flexibility podcasts

Another possibility might be cycling - you might be able to get hold of a bike through Freegle.

Breast reduction is potentially a very serious step if you're not past child-bearing - in a nutshell it could increase the chances of any children being overweight. Probably not at the forefront of your mind right now, but needs to be discussed before surgery.

Good luck! You've a lot on your plate at the moment and it sounds as though something to lift your mood should be the top priority.

Hi Angel

I come from a family of buxom ladies, I am lucky I can get front fastening bras that hold me in, but my daughter bless her can't, she has to buy her over the shoulder boulder holders from Marks and Spencer, which as we all know isn’t bargain basement price.

She's doing an apprenticeship as a care assistant so she needs the strong support

I don't know where you get your bras but she's. 36gg and pays £15 each from m&s and they do really strong sports bras, they also do a good range of bras in the shoe tailor catalogue for similar price.

I hope this helps. Have you thought of going swimming? It works all your muscles and your whole body, which will strengthen your bored muscles, strengthen your back and ease. Your back pain!

I'm giving you my special poem that I give to people who are in need of some comfort and support.

When angels sense you need them

And angels always do

They come unseen from everywhere

To help and comfort you

They hover close beside you

Till all your cares are gone

Till they can see you're ready

Once again to carry on

Then some of them fly away

And take their gentle touch

To other hearts that need the love

Of angels very much

But one at least stays with you

As your constant friend and guide

For guardian angels never leave you

They are always by your side!

Take care and angel blessings

Hi, the shock absorber running bra is the best sports bra that i know of and i wouldnt be without mine, and it might help to keep the boobs under control when running! :)

As for the back pain, having suffered really bad constant back pain, i found that core strengthening exercises have helped massively alongside the running. Have a look on you tube to find something that works for you.

I would hate to have to stop running so i feel for you, but do try the core exercises, i cant tell you the difference it has made for me.

Good luck :)

Maybe its not all or nothing with the running. Nordic walking can be a lot more intensive than walking if you want it to be.

So you could walk - core - Nordic walk - core and then you should have made an impression on the back pain - and allow some running back into the mix!

Also with the issues related to exercise maybe you need for a short time to really go to town on the nutrition because blitzing high intensity exercise is not really an ideal option for you!
