I exercise from 6.05am to 6.30am (Jane Fonda Walk Out prog) Mon-Friday and have a Pilates class on a Thursday evening from 6.45 to 7.30pm.

I eat plenty of fruit and veg, mostly fish and am keeping a food diary but the weight remains static. Why?

Could also be your fat is turning into muscle, muscle weighs more than fat xXx Hve you measured yourself, or tried any clothes that were slightly tight - could just be the incentive you need!!! Dont give up, and good luck, be conident in yourself and keep going xXx

I agree you need to take in less than you need Pilates is low intensity and not really about the calorie burn, make sure you don't add any extras sauces and fats to your veg I have seen a dressing turn a salad into the same calls as a burger!

The sad truth I must face is that I eat too much.

I now have to work out how much to eat without eating too little!!!

Sorry, but you're not going to like this answer!

By far the most likely reason is that you are quite simply eating more than you think you are.

You need to be brutally honest about E V E R Y T H I N G you eat or drink - in every place, at every time, in every situation.

Not just the 'main' bit of the meal either, but also the custards, gravies, toppings, sauces, etc., etc.

And get a handle on the portion-sizes too. A bucketful of low calorie food will still contain quite a lot of calories, so be careful with your portions of rice, potatoes, pasta, cous cous, maize and the like - weigh them out. Take control both of what and how much you're eating.

My advice is to calorie count - using whatever system you like (your MFP app, googling 'how many calories in ........") at least until you've trained yourself to be pretty expert on the sorts of foods that you eat. You may find that doing that will bring to light that you're eating some things that are much highter in calories than you expected.

[One I discovered the other day was a 200g bag of cashew nuts coming in at about 1150 kcal - that's like eating a 200g bar of chocolate!]

Be wary of fatty/oily foods, sweet/sugary things, fried foods, creamy tasting foods (fat), cakes and biscuits and cheese - both in terms of the calories and the amounts you're eating.

Yes, you can eat high-calorie foods, but only small amounts and only occasionally.

That's what I was afraid of!

I am keeping a food diary and have been honest, brutally so!

Tonight my diary is being vetted by the doc & nutritionist - I will not be surprised at their comments.

Thank you for telling me - I needed to see it in writing!

hi bigmammy.

do not be afraid. reading your blog it seems to me that you are on a good path to change things around. forget past and start again, the doc & nutritionist check that you've mentioned are a good starting point.
