Hi ddraigqueen,

With your prevailing medical issues, I would advise you to discuss your planned weight loss regime with your doctor.

Basically, all the advice on the NHS live well lose weight pages and within the 12 week plan in respect of diet, nutrition, hydration, weight loss rates, etc., etc., will be perfectly valid for you. However, any issue about upping your activity/ execise levels is obviously going to need specific tailored advice.

In general terms, seeking out low-impact exercise e.g. aqua aerobics might be helpful, but I really think you should seek specific advice from your GP, or a physiotherapist.

Thank you, i asked to see a dietician and she could not help me food wise as she said my diet was better than she would recommend, she did ask me if i had fybromyalgia which after eliminating a lot of other things i was told i did have fybro. I have had diet sheets from the surgery which totally contradict each other. i was given a diet sheet to help with the diebetes but told by the nurse not to take any notice of it. Confused i was. At one point i was given steroids and that really affected my weight i decided to stop taking them due to the weight gain.

Hello there, you dont say if your mobility issues are down to you being overweight?

I think it would be a good idea to attend Rosemary Conley diet and fitness class, my mum did and she can walk a lot better now. hope you lose weight and get happy.

Thank you. My mobility is not through my weight although some of the weight is due to my lack of mobility. I have crushed vertebre in my neck but mostly it is due to damaged disks in my lower back. I did join Slimming world for a while but due to the lack of bus service i cannot get home after about 6.30pm, the buses stop after this and i would be stranded. The sessions in my area are evenings. I have an under active thyroid, fybromyalgia and diabetes type2. My hands and feet are getting more arthritus lumps and bumps.

Hi, I have just found a herbalife distributer in my village and i have started on this. So far i have the shake and lemon tea. I have not lost any weight yet. I have been to see a hypnotherapist for a hypnotic gastric band, unfortunately due to snow and illness the sessions were too far apart. The hypnotherapist i see has offered to do the course over for me. I will be re starting this in the next 2 weeks. My only problem with the herbalife is the cost but i will keep it up for another month to see if i do lose anything. I was advised by the physiotherapists not to use herbalife although i said i believed it to be safe.

Hi ddraigqueen,

You may find this link helpful in terms of considering any commercial "diet".

nhs.uk/Livewell/loseweight/...

My view is that most "diets" are counter-productive in the mid to long term as generally teh weight lost on the "diet" is regained. And also, relying on commercial "slimming" products can divert from dealing with - i.e. changing - the underlying "bad" eating or activity habits that made you overweight in the first place.

I mean what happens in the long term, do you just keep having the "slimming" shakes or frozen meals for the rest of your life?

However, each to their own and I do accept that the group meeting of some commercial slimming systems can suit some personalities - though it doesn't mine particularly.

Good luck with your weight loss.

Thank you and i do agree with you that diet should be healthy eating. I eat a lot of vegetables and fruit. i never add sugar or salt to anything, not even coffee. The diabetic nurse told me to go wheat and gluten free so i did, the following month when i saw her i told her that i was finding it very expensive and she told me not to bother. I have been told on several occasions that i don't eat enough to lose weight, which sounds daft. I spend a lot of time on my own and i admit i forget to eat. My partner phones me on his lunch break 3.30pm and he always asks what have i eaten. The herbal life person told me to eat 3 small meals and 2 snacks a day (snacks eg:piece of fruit) one of them to be a shake as my last meal. No more than 1400 calories a day. I still struggle with this, i manage the shake and the fruit but i might just have one other meal. The nurse also told me to forget my olive spread and go back to butter, i tried but find butter made me feel yuck so would rather go without any spread. one of my main meals is steamed fish with veg. I like plain bland food, i don't do sauces or gravies, no spices etc. I thought i would try the shake to see if it would kick start me.

Hi ddraigqueen,

I would recommend spice - it's the friend of the dieter! It can give you a bit of a temporary heightening of your metabolic rate and, probably more importantly, helps you maintain some interest and variety in your meals.

As far as weight loss goes, one form of oil or fat is much the same in calories as another. Although there may be other reasons why some are 'healthier' than others. This link is useful nhs.uk/Livewell/Goodfood/Pa...

Good luck with your weight loss efforts.

Hi I think that I have similar health issues. A car accident with compression in the neck, left side weakness resulting over time in problems in the lower vertebra. Unable to move in hydro therapy or manage with the chair lift into the pool my choices were limited. With chronic pain you need to have some quality of life meaning medication an resulting weight gain. I have lost 8 lbs so far with a hypnotherapist, and it helps my mood which keeps me positive. I have some IBS and have cut out milk for coconut milk from the health shop. I am reducing all dairy and feeling better. You can get cds for relaxation and hypno gastric band. I paid two hundred pounds for four sessions. Its been great as its kick started me into losing weight. I definitely recommend it when you cant use the gym or put weight on your joints. Good luck

Hi, we sound quite similar. I have had gastric band hypnotherapy but i started during the bad weather and the timings of the appointments became too far apart for it to work. I have a lovely hypnotherapist who has offered to re do the whole course for free, how many people would do that. Due to illness and health appointments i have not been able to restart the program but i am definately going to. I like unsweetened soya milk but some people tell me not to use it. A lot of cows milk makes me feel so sluggish, i am intolerant to coconut so could not try the milk. Coconut stops me breathing, it brings on a severe asthma attack. I am so pleased that you are managing to lose weight it really is quite an achievment. Tomorrow I am going to book my sessions with my hypno man again and thank you for understanding. Good luck to you on your journey and i wish you a pain free future. xx

Hi ddraigqueen, I also have mobility problems due to prolapsed discs and scoliosis among other health issues but find that although I can't walk very far or stand much I can use an exercise bike and a treadmill that has arm rests/handles. Since starting on the 12 week plan, I've tried to exercise for at least 30 mins daily and cut my calorie intake to below 1400 if I can, although it soon mounts up and some days I go slightly over and others under. So far have lost 2lbs and an inch from my waist. I have a goal as my daughter is getting married in the summer and have lots of clothes in my wardrobe that I cannot get into, many of them new. I also exercise to my favourite music as it helps a lot. Best of luck!

Hi, its sounds like you are having lots of pain and I do wish you firstly to get well. I think a lot of advice that has allready been given seems really good advice. A lot of slimming groups also do online membership so everything will be on your computer. Personally I find this site very helpful due to it being free. One person mentioned aqua aerobics also swimmin in general is good. Maybe some light gardening? Maybe some excercises that you can do whilst sitting in a chair would also be good for you. I wish you well on your journey x

Hi Angel

I have mobility problems, no feeling to right side of my body and hypermobility in all my joints also ra in all joints so loosing weight was a battle I lost!

At my heaviest weight 31 stone 8ib I begged for gastric bypass operation, 3yrs later and 11 stone lighter, my body has now hit a platto.

I was give a diet book specifically tailored to my blood group and after reading it, I was amazed! I found out I was wheat intolerant and had to cut out most dairy, and since following the guidelines I have lost nearly 2st in 10wks! It's really easy to follow and can tell a difference in health after 1st wk!.

Take care and angel blessings

I have fybromyalgia, and arthritis in all my joints. The best thing I've tried is pilates, although I can only do the warm ups it has really helped me in ways I didn't expect. You can get a cheap dvd on ebay. Hope this helps. Good luck
