Has anyone had experience with health professionals telling you that you have to choose between wanting to get pregnant or symptom management? I was told that I can’t not have both and have to choose one which I get to a certain extend. However, I have scalp hair loss with my PCOS which is having a massive impact on my confidence and mental health and the consultant told me that treating it would fall under symptom management, but because my focus is fertility, they can’t treat both at the same time. It’s almost like one way or the other they expect you to suffer!

Fertility or symptom management…can’t have both!
Unfortunately, it’s pretty common for healthcare providers to suggest that managing PCOS symptoms and focusing on fertility need different approaches. I’ve been there too. My main concern was weight gain and difficulty losing weight, and I was prescribed medication for it. I was told that if I got pregnant during treatment, I’d need to stop the medication because there isn’t enough research to confirm it’s safe for pregnancy.
It’s frustrating, but I get that they’re trying to be cautious. Still, it feels like you’re stuck between two options. I know there are more holistic approaches out there, like focusing on nutrition and lifestyle changes, so maybe looking for someone who specialises in that could help support both your fertility and managing your symptoms at the same time. It’s definitely worth exploring!
