I’m new here, I’m just looking for some advice / success stories really, I have PCOS I was diagnosed when I was 12, I was on the pill for 10 years however I’ve been trying for a baby with my husband for over a year, my doctor made a referral to the gynaecologist and they won’t accept me because my BMI is to high but they want a normal weight to accept me (I’ve always been a large girl) my doctor just fobs me off and tells me to loose weight which I am doing but hasn’t offered me any meds to help with ovulating I’ve just been prescribed something to make me have a period every 3 months yet it says (I can’t get pregnant for 18 months after stopping this tablet) I’m beginning to loose hope as I don’t feel my body is going to be able to get pregnant naturally and my doctors don’t exactly want to help me, would you change your doctor? Or get a second opinion within the same surgery? And has anyone had any success with getting pregnant naturally if so how long did it take and what did you do?
Thank you for your support.

I suffer with pcos and with my little boy it took me 5 years tc as I never got no help. Now me and my husband are trying for another baby I have been prescribed metformin as it's meant to help me ovulate. So could you not ask your gp about that.
As for your gyno turning you away because your a big girl...So what they cant do that I dont think that is very fair everyone deserves help no matter how big you are. Can you not find a new hp someone that will help you... I'm sorry you are going through this it must be horrible for you xx
Thank you so much for your story it gives me hope I’m just hoping it happens sooner rather than later I’ve started taking a prepregnancy vitamin to see if it helps me ovulate and also after posting this I actually called my gp to see a different doctor for a second opinion and to bring the medication side of things up because I’ve read so much in to it.
And I know I was gutted when I heard but it just means the gynaecologist in my area only takes people on with a normal BMI which is rubbish 🙁 but thank you for your kind words xxx
All is not lost my story is similar except we have been trying for over 12 years.. however I didnt even have a period for ten of those years and my bmi is too High for the negligent doctors to do anything.. so i went and did my own research over the last two years.. i have now regulated my periods and I know im getting closer to conceiving I had a miscarriage last year and as devastating as that was I got pregnant. I wont lie its not an easy fix, its a combination of diet changes and supplements.. firstly my advise get on pintrest and type in pcos syptom / diet/ suppliments and read everything you can. Seriously i had no idea what pcos actually does to our bodies but once you understand its quite simple.. in short terms.. pcos causes us to not tolllerate sugar .. this means we make too much insulin (hence why I have and many do develope type 2 diabets) with increased insulin we create too much testosterone (hence the facial and extra body hair and sometimes thining head hair) the insulin attaches to the testosterone but having to much testosteronein one of the reasons we struggle to get pregnant becasue we don't make the right amount of estrogen or progesterone .. so in short cut sugar out and your half way there please also note unused carbohydrates in your body turn into sugar so not just traditonal sugar you need to cut down on all the good stuff, also gluten free and lacto free is a must, the gluten reacts in our stomach and causes a condition caused leeky gut.. a lot of People with pcos also get told they have IBS most dont its another complication of pcos but another reason why our hormones are out of wack and can be a reason we don't ovulate. Also the lactos in milk and dairy is the sugar ellement Once you go lacto free its more sugar removed from your body also it contrubutes to the leeky gut issue. Also i take a probiotic every day as again it helps your tymmy. I no longer have any tummy issues and that's a relief.. there are also suppliments and every one has a different take on this there is tumeric cinnamon and countless other but find one with inositol and b12.. most peoples bodys create inositol but pcos people don't or have a much reduced level the inositol is crucial for insulin maintenance and a heathy body. I personally take fertile f2 and ovarifert from amitamin with in 3 months it had fully regulated my cycle and I had my first period in 10 years that obviously doesn't solve the ovilation issues but like I said I fel pregnant, I wont lie its tough on a high protein lots of heathy fats but extremely low carbs I also lost 4 stone ( my bmi is still way to high apparently ) I still have a few stone to lose and I'm not small but I feel my body working I have the hormones I was clearly missing for all those years so I have hope.. im 34 so my time is tight.. please take this advise and do your research.. good luck
Thank you for your story very helpful, I actually have a book on pcos 😀 I also started taking, cinnamon, turmeric with black pepper and a pre pregnancy supplement which has, folic acid, isotal (poor spelling sorry) b12 and another thing that the body requires and I read a review on this and someone with pcos took it and it made them ovulate so I’m trying this as well, I’m working out also, and I almost cut most sugars out, (I can’t lie I have the odd small chocolate bar now but I used to eat them all the time like 1+ a day) I’ve changed my milk to almond unsweetened milk, and I’ve had the odd chai seed pudding as I no they are high in omega 3 so I’ve made a lot of changes and I’ve managed to loose a stone since March and keep it off which is brilliant for me as I do really struggle to loose weight but also your story gives me hope, the reason I find it such a struggle and not think my body will do it naturally is because I know my mum had ivf to conceive myself and my brother now I no that does dictate what our body does but I started my periods when I was 11 had 1 then never had one again I was on the pill for 10 years so obviously I know this has a big impact on your body also but I’m hopeful and reading more stories and more kind words it really does give me hope thank you
I have to say, the first thing I did was lose weight. Only 21lb. I am 5.7” and was 11 stone but I had always looked swollen. Can’t explain it. Once I had lost the Weight I went on the pill for three months. Came off and fell pregnant with my first child. I do try to limit the amount of sugar in my diet and avoid white foods, I know when I’ve had too much as I pay for it during my next ovulation. I used “Eat Right For Your Type” the blood group diet. I’m a type O so a low carb diet is best for me. Check it out. There is a free app with the basics. Even if you just omit the foods it says you should avoid as a start. Good luck
