Have you tried metformin? : Peoples... - PCOS UK (Verity)
Have you tried metformin?
I was prescribed Metformin last year and it honestly did nothing for me. Obviously everybody is different and it's great for others. Some people have the side effects and some are fine x
I tried it and it made me violently ill, so stopped it, but I have seen people say it worked for them. Everyone seems to react differently to it
Yes i’ve been taking it for a while and it helps regulating my cycle. I was 83kg and now 66kg without doing any diets, I just eat better and have an hour walk every day. I was feeling sick the first week, now I take 1 after each meal and I feel fine x
I had it and it gave me pernicious anaemia, a terrible stomach and I actually put on weight so will never take it again
I was rpescribed Metformin for weight loss (associated with PCOS weight gain). It made me really ill, however at the lower doses my body adjusted to it over time. Unfortunately it's effect on my weight also ceased to be effective after a while which prompted them to increase the dose, resulting in my body reacting again. My final dose I increased to my body never adjusted to. It was impacting my ability to make plans that took me away from immediate access to a toilet as when I needed one I had to drop everything a run. It was no way to live and I chose to cease taking it. I did persevere and even revisited it after a break, however the constant illness took a toll on my physical body and my mental health.
Iro my cycle, I had already been on some form of birth control (at the point when I was diagnosed) for years, which I was prescribed to regulate my cycle.
I was also prescribed a water tablet that was found to be effective for some women for excess hair growth in unwanted areas, however I did not notice a difference in my own.
This isn't to say you won't have any luck with the Metformin, as there are success stories out there. It really depends on your own reaction to the medication and how it affects you over all.
Could have been a coincidence but as soon as I started taking it I ovulated again for the first time in years….I never had any awful side effects. I’d say worth a try! Good luck!
