PCOS and thickened endometrial lining, help!

Hi everyone.

I found out yesterday from GP that I have PCOS. I have clinical signs and had a scan last week. I have been expecting this diagnosis so this has not come as a shock but almost a relief that I have some answers now.

However, at my scan they found that I also have a thickened endometrial (womb) lining of 14mm, the dr said this was double what it should be and very uncommon for my age (23). I have a mirena coil with little periods (although I was actually just finishing one, so the lining should be at its thinnest). They have referred me to gynaecology for further investigations. They said it could be due to the PCOS but cannot be sure so need to investigate further.

Does anyone else have a thickened lining? Should I be worried?

Thanks in advance for any responses.

Hi Moppie1,

I had an ultrasound and it revealed I had a very thickened lining and that was when the Gynaecologist diagnosed me with PCOS. I went on to have a Hysteroscopy (camera inside for investigation and biopsy of the lining under GA). I was then told to take the pill to keep the womb lining thin. I had to come off it 2 years later because it caused really high blood pressure! I was told to get a Mirena coil fitted instead to keep the lining thin. I have just had a Hysteroscopy, biopsy and Mirena coil fitting done under GA just 4 weeks ago - I thought the whole purpose of the Mirena coil was to keep the lining thin! Nobody told me this could happen - now I'm worried too!!
