Have you improved your symptoms with a healthy diet and exercise alone?

Hi. I was wondering if anyone has had success in regaining regular periods through a strict no sugar etc diet and exercise. A lot of people online claim to have ‘cured’ their PCOS with extreme healthy eating and as the pill is not suiting me I was thinking of trying it? I’m lucky to not struggle with my weight so it would be just for hormone balancing rather than weight loss. Any advise would be great!

Honestly,

Everyone is different. There is no mircale cure that is for sure but there benefits to regular excerise, balanced meals and supplements (seek advice from chemist or doctor on that one and always give your recent medical history - some supplements interact with medications ).

Dont be hard on yourself in the process of finding what works for you!

Once you find what suits you, youll know.

I have massively improved my pcos by healthy eating snd exercise. Tbh healthy eating was the biggest contributor.

Massively reducing carb intake and having mostly protein for breakfast was the best way forward. I also reduced snacks. I had protein and fat with every meal.

I introduced strength workouts - short 20-30mins. Stopped running.

I improved my sleep. I took supplements. I improved my vitamin levels - making sure to test bloods first.

I lost almost 2 stone. This is since may last year.

Well done! This is really good to know. Did you stop eating inflammatory foods like sugar, gluten and dairy?

I count sugar as a carb so when I say I hugely reduced carbs I did cut sugar as part of this. I barely eat any with brekkie and have lots of protein. This curbs your desire to snack. Then only have a bit of carbs but still some with lunch and dinner. But try snd have low GI carbs as they are less likely to stimulate insulin.

The reason you stop sugar is less about inflammation but about the Knock on impact to insulin. The more you can improve insulin sensitivity the better.

I learned a lot from clare Goodwin pcos nutritionist via her podcast. I’d thoroughly recommend.

I did end up having to cut dairy entirely but I suffer hugely from acne symptoms and Dairy - esp low fat dairy like milk and soft cheese is very insulin stimulating. It took a long time but my skin is much better now but still get occasional spot.

I also worked on my gut. Eating lots of veg, probiotics and prebiotics and things like kefir and fermented things.

I still eat gluten but far less. I am still working out whether I need to cut gluten. I also have a thyroid problem that is autoimmune. Suspect I would cut it for that rather than the pcos. My CRP is quite low suggesting I don’t have lots of inflammation in my body.
