PCOS and no period for 2 years

I was diagnosed with PCOS at 17 and have since made changes to my diet and exercise to lead a healthier life. The problem is that I still have all my PCOS symptoms and completely stopped having periods 2 years ago (I'm now 22). I have always had irregular periods (every 2 months) but never experienced them stop completely. Has anyone had any experience with this before? Ive been to see a gynecologist and they don't seem to know what's caused it. I'm really keen to have children so I'm worried about what this means for my future.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Jade, I was diagnosed when I was 14/15 and I remember that before diagnosed I stayed without a period for a whole year! I was then put on a pill and kept taking it for 20 years! I stopped a few times for a little while and never had a period. I then stopped when trying to get pregnant and didn’t get anything.

I started fertility treatment with clomid and didn’t get pregnant but I did ovulate so it could’ve worked it out. My sister is exactly the same as me and clomid worked for her.

I ended up doing IVF which worked first time.

Don’t worry too much as people say that PCOS is one of the simplest fertility issue to be resolved x

Hi Sbevms, I can't thank you enough for your reply. I have also been on the pill and like you my period didn't return when I ended up coming off it. It has since been put forward to me by the gynecologist as a solution for my stopped periods but it doesn't solve the underlying issue and I'm reluctant to go back on it for its effects on my mental health. So happy and reassuring to hear that fertility treatments worked for you and your sister. Thanks again 😊

Which pill did you used to take? I tried a few that made me depressed but the last one I took was microgynon which didn’t give me any side effect.

Also, I had my daughter a year ago and for the past 3 months I had regular periods which I never in my life had!

The only advice I would give is to try to eat healthy and exercise as we struggle more to lose weight with PCOS and try not to wait too long to have a baby. Although I had mine at 37 ;) X

I've tried quite a few and I think microgynon was one that worked for me. I'm just wary of going back on it as my understanding is the bleed that you get from the pill is not an actual period? As in, it's a withdrawal bleed so won't help with me getting my period back naturally.

Wow that's really good to hear, I hope they continue to be regular for you.

I think my pcos type may be lean pcos as I have already addressed the eating right/ exercise aspect and don't seem to have problems with weight. Thank you though, I will definitely keep what you said in mind.

Hi Jade. If your considering going back on the pill please can I recommend you read Period Power first? Honestly this book has changed my life and there is a whole section about the pill and mental health 😊

Hi, thank you so much for your recommendation. I am reluctant to go back on it as I'd like to get my period back and balance my hormones naturally. Did the book help you get your period back?
