Advice! Recently diagnosed with PCOS

My daughter has just recently been diagnosed with PCOS. She would have a severe acne break out, tired, no motivation and terrible mood swings.

She was prescribed Transanamic acid, now she has been prescribed metaformic acid and to have another ultrasound as she is experiencing a lot of abdominal pain.

What are the differences between the two medicines please?

Her cycle is regular and she has a healthy diet.

I am concerned about the abdominal pain is this common with having PCOS.

I am worried with her having added pressures of school work due to her being in her last year at school.

Any advice

Hi - I take metformin! It's usually used in the treatment of type 2 diabetes, basically it just helps lower your blood sugars, as a usual issue (or main issue) of PCOS is insulin resistance, since your body often tends to produce too much. Even if you have a healthy diet, your insulin resistance can still be an issue, although definitely not as much as if she didn't have a healthy diet. Some of the side effects can be diarrhoea, sickness, going off food, stomach ache and there's some more - it varies for everyone, I really struggled with having no appetite, which can be an issue since you're recommended to take it with food. Although, my side effects lasted around 2-4 weeks, they do eventually go. The abdominal pain can be common - or it could be down to the metformin, it is quite common, for me I hadn't had a regular period in over 3 years and the period cramps I'd get following using metformin were some of the worst I've had, so it could be down to that, too. Best thing is to consult the doctor and question if she's not reacting well to the medication, I hope she feels better soon!:)
