Hello! I’m new to this site and just wanting a bit of help please, I was on the pill from the age of about 13-25 because I was having really heavy irregular periods, throughout taking the pill my periods were normal but then since coming off the pill my periods were very non existent (I know this is normal after you stop taking contraceptive) but it’d been almost a year with nothing at all so I went to my GP and she put me on some tablets to start my period off and then I had some blood tests at the 2nd and 21st day of my cycle, my bloods came back normal but it showed I wasn’t producing any progesterone so I was then referred to gynae and she referred me for an ultrasound scan a month later, so I had my scan and I’d still not heard anything after 3 weeks so I contacted my GP again and was told by the receptionist that there was multiple follicles on my ovaries and a 12.5mm cyst in my right ovary and I’d been referred back to gynae for another appointment in 6 months time... I haven’t been able to speak to my GP since I got the results so I don’t really know what this means or what the other appointment is for so I was just hoping someone could give me some advice on what these follicles mean, if the cyst could get any bigger or anything I could do to help with ovulation? Me and my boyfriend are wanting to try for a baby and I’m really worried about these scan results, I don’t really know anything about PCOS other than what I’ve googled (which is never a good idea!!) so any advice would be a big help please, thanks in advance!! X

PCOS advice needed please!!
First of call you doctor for clarification if you can.
Not producing progesterone isn't a great sign, as you need progesterone to carry a baby. I am getting progesterone this time round to help me if I get pregnant, but I already produce it. I believe it can dip at times and these could be a reason for miscarriages. I'm not a doctor, and I've never been told this by a medical professional outright, this is what I understand from what I have read. So I imagine if you don't have progesterone, then that will need some help with, as I don't believe you will be able to carry the baby for long if you were to get pregnant or maybe even get pregnant without it.
The cyst doesn't sound too big at the moment, however I'd request constant checks on it, because they can get bigger fairly quickly. Maybe you could ask you get it removed, my sister had hers removed by keyhole I believe, but I also believe it was much bigger, but why take the risk I guess? Its only going to cause more problems if it gets bigger or bursts. One to discuss with the gynea, again I'm not a doctor, I know of someone who lost both ovaries, luckily they had a child on the one ovary, but now can't have any natural children as they lost both in the end. Not to worry you, but it could be quite serious at some point, but it also may not.
If you are not having periods, it looks like you might not be ovulating, whether it is due to PCOS or something else that is not a good sign for pregnancy. They may be able to give you Clomid to help make you release eggs and there are other options like IVF if it gets that far.
Good luck with it all.
