My Dr has just diagnosed me with pcos I'm await a scan so I'm very new to this. Over the last few years I've really gained weight found it really hard to lose, I've go more hair in my face the bottom of my back. 2 months ago my periods just stopped they had got progressively lighter and shorter and now nothing at all. I was just looking for some advise that people have found works for them in regards to periods and weightloss. My little boy is 9 I had to problem getting pregnant. I haven't tried since then but I'm getting married in december and I know my husband wants a baby. I'm 33 now

Hi 👋 I’m 22 and I have also been recently diagnosed with PCOS after having two surgery’s. In terms of weight loss I am trying to cut out sugar and follow some of the PCOS recipie books! Food has a lot to do with hormones, so I think following these diets is a good start. I personally like to go for runs too or just a long walk in the evenings. I am also going on Metformin soon which lowers your sugar levels and insulin I believe so it shouldn’t be something that’s craved as much. This tablet also help reduce androgen levels so hopefully it works ☺️

Hi Charlilymay... I have yet to be diagnosed with PCOS, but I have 2 out of the 3 main symptoms. Did you find it hard to have your doctor diagnose the problem and prescribe you with Metformin?

So, I have had 2 sugeries for ovarian torsion cysts one when I was 16 and one recently, from there my GP was really good and got a blood test scheduled and found I have higher levels of androgen. My periods are normal but I also had a scan following the survey (to check the big cyst hadn’t come back as it was drained not fully removed) and they found my ovaries to be bumpy? Idk a better word for it but they aren’t smooth because of PCOS. I think sadly sometimes it takes something serious like ovarian torsion surgery to make doctors do something, like my first one no one was really bothered .. I would definitely try to get a scan before going on any treatment because no woman is “perfect” on the scale of PCOS either so it’s worth checking out ... hormone tests are necessary too. I haven’t started treatment yet. Honestly my diagnosis was confusing because PCOS isn’t very straightforward I suppose so doctors also just assuming it is PCOS based on symptoms .. I would say get hormone tests first so at least then any treatment wouldn’t be futile

~ sorry this is so long I ramble

I have been waiting 12 years to be taken seriously... I knew from a teen that something wasn’t right. When I was 18 I went over 2 years without having a period. I was told countless times ‘it was normal’ (baring in mind this is the menopausal time). I moved surgeries when I moved out of a city and my current doctors are great.

I checked their website at the doctors profiles as it tells you what part of medicine interests them, and their was a young female doctor who had an interest in Womens health and as soon as I told her my concerns, missed erratic periods, pains, acne(which I went on roaccutane for, the dermo sent me to the endocrinologist for my elevated testosterone levels) etc she did blood tests and an internal examination and well this certainly wasn’t the first time. I had told her about my concerns and I asked if I could see a gynaecologist as I had seen a endocrinologist for my hormones and they dismissed me on the basis that ‘I didn’t look like I had elevated testosterone levels’ because I hadn’t appeared to have manly features. They ran hormones profiles 3 times, and the last one was ‘normal’ however it was difficult to tell the hormone levels when I don’t know where I am in my cycle due to it being irregular.

The gynaecologist sent me for an abdominal scan which again I had done previously, however this time they did an internal scan. The tummy scan didn’t show a thing, however the internal scan did...

The ladies who did the scans have said the scans indicate pcos however im yet to have a follow up with my gyno.

It’s amazing having being listened too!

For so long I was told I wouldn’t know if I’m fertile unless I tried to conceive, well would they like me to try and then abort just to find out?!?! Like whaaatt?! What if I was running out of time to have a child but I didn’t know?! I don’t want a baby yet but certainly some day!

My experience is, ask for a gynaecologist, express your concerns of pcos. Never give up! Show them your research! Use period tracking apps!

My period could go from 45 days To 20 days cycle...

Find a doctor who has a keen interest in this, otherwise the dr will brush it off.

I have had doctor’s (out of surgeries) tell me to find a dr with a keek interest in your problem as otherwise they won’t look into it very thoroughly.

But once you know what your up against, it’s certainly a weight lifted! I’m 25 and had symptoms at 12/13... I also started my period at the age of 9...

Good luck! ❤️
