Hiya girls! So just before lockdown I was diagnosed with pcos after I finally went to the doctors about only having period twice a year and due to me turning 17 this year we really didn’t think Think was normal and with all this time in my hand with me not being able to have my appointment with a specialist because of coronavirus (which is understandable) I’ve been really thinking about it a lot. I was hoping that anyone who’s had an appointment could give me a idea of what will happen to try and put my mind at rest!
Help : Hiya girls! So just before lockdown... - PCOS UK (Verity)
Help
When I first went to my gp about pcos she talked about my symptoms then she referred my to the gynecologists and had all my test done with her.
You have blood test to check your hormonal levels..... then you have a scan to see how bad you have got pcos and to see if you got it in both ovaries as some people only get it in one side.... they will talk about the symptoms you have got ie irregular periods weight gain facial hair all stuff like that.....then they talk about a way forward.... there is no cure for it but there are ways to reduce it.
I found out just before the lockdown so I had all my test but because of the lockdown I was unable to get all my test results as they want to talk about them at my next appointment.
I ended up ringing my gp to get metformin.... they give this to woman who have pcos and are trying to conceive as you might not ovulate properly.
I hope this helps x
Best thing you can do is go on pintrest and type in pcos symptoms, diet, supplements and find out all the info you need to maintain being heathy.. the doctos in my exsperiance have been negligent at best so doing your own research is key it will also hopfully settle your mind and maybe point out some simple changes you can start now instead of being in limbo.. firstly a gluten free, lacto free, high protein and good heathy fats diet is key.. then inositol and other supplements will also help.. do the re-search and it won't seem quite so scary
Completely agree, it took me a year to get diagnosed and I've had a couple of periods if that for 3 years. The gyno even rejected me as I'm not wanting to conceive. My doctors did an ultrasound and blood tests to diagnose me so this could be diagnosed during lockdown as I did my blood tests recently if your doc offers this at the moment. My doctors have just given me a contraceptive pill to encourage bleeds once every 3 months to keep my womb lining healthy. From what I'm reading now on this forum exercise is really important and diet so I think I'm going to have to improve on those areas just to keep myself as healthy as I can be.
I managed to get an ultrasound Which is how they diagnosed me and they took bloods But they never got back to me! I was wondering if anyone has been tired or sleeping a lot due to pcos? Thank you x
Definitely ring up for the blood results, I feel tired all the time but haven't been sleeping extra, they found I had low folate also in my blood so I'm taking folic acid for that, may be worth getting blood results to see if anything else could be a cause of tiredness
