Hello everyone! I am new and I feel so lucky that I finally found a support group. I have been diagnosed at the age of 17 with PCOS but I am sure my periods were not regular even before. Since 18 I put on a lot of weight, I really feel ashamed because of it. I have been overweight for almost 10 years. Since last June I started to go to the gym and my period was more regular. Four weeks ago I started a new diet, from 112 Kg I am now 108. It will take time to have a good BMI but I really want to loose weigh for myself and to achieve a pregnancy. Me and my partner have being trying for 6 years with no success. I am very sad, depressed and frustrated because of this, I always dreamed about having a baby. Since I started this new diet my period has stopped again, do you think this is because the body is changing? Do you think that there is hope to have a baby? My Doctor said that I will have more chances to get pregnant if I loose weight. Do you have any experiences to share or suggestions? Since my period is irregular do you think I should do an ovulation test every day after my period comes to make sure we get the right date? I did an ovulation blood test, the progestosterone was low but the Doctor said probably because we did it on the wrong day. Have you take any medication to get pregnant? Thank you so much!!
Help: Hello everyone! I am new and I feel... - PCOS UK (Verity)
Help
Remember that you dont need a period to get pregnant as you can conceive without it so dont focus too much on it. Look at theanswertopcos diet - 2 ladies i did it with 10 years ago both lost 7 stone and conceived naturally, I wasnt trying for a baby but I have managed to maintain my weight since.
Look at the fertilityfriends website as it shows what signs to look for to show you are ovulating etc - we tend to ovulate later than the norm too.
Has your partner had his sperm tested as well?
Do you know what your BMI is currently - I know in the UK they wont offer fertility treatment until it is under 30
Hello Hols969 thank you for your answer! My BMI is 37.8 so maybe as you said if I will loose weight I maybe conceive naturally. I have been prescribed Orlistat but I also joined a famous slimming company, I am eating healthier and I am now more active so maybe I need just a little patient and time. I didn`t know that I could conceive without a period, great to know. My partner had the test and he is fine. Thank you so much for your time and help, I really feel better know knowing that there is hope
If you use facebook, there are loads of Verity local groups on there so you may find ladies in your area.
Dont lose hope, keep on the weight loss journey, remember also if you can hear a ticking clock, that our egg quality remains better for longer so we can conceive later in life, I conceived Noah when I was 36. My BMI was just over 30 at the time, it is really rare not to conceive just due to pcos so I would definitely look at fertilityfriends as you may be missing your ovulating timings. I was TTC for 3 years and it was bl**dy depressing I have to say (which is why I only have Noah who is 13 but actually so worth the effort!!) Keep up the exercise too to try and lift your mood too, resistance training is good for us as the more muscle you have the more we burn.
Thank you for sharing your story, I will keep going with my weight loss journey and see what happens. If I reach the BMI for NHS fertility treatment and in the meantime nothing has happened I will ask my GP to refer me. As you know sometimes the frustration is too much but we have to stay positive
I know, easier said than done sometimes as it is difficult to keep motivated especially as the weight loss is slow. If the current one doesnt work for you then look at theanswertopcos one as I lost 2-3 each week which hadnt happened before and Ive tried every diet under the sun. But it is all to do with what suits you and your lifestyle! Good luck
