I was diagnosed with PCOS nearly two years ago now, and have been on the Lucette combined pill since. Although it does give me regular periods, I’ve been seriously thinking about coming off of it recently.
I find that my periods are more painful with worse PMS, and that my hair growth has not been improved. I have read many, many things about how the combined pill masks your PCOS symptoms and that it is better to heal your body more naturally.
I have also heard that PCOS symptoms seem a lot worse after coming off of the pill, because your body masks them for so long and they deteriorate if you are not taking proper care of yourself.
I was wondering if anyone could share their experiences of coming off of the pill, and if they then used any alternative methods to helping their PCOS symptoms?
Thank you!!

Hey Roseex, I've been taking Co-cyrindiol and I've also been on Dianette. I believe they're the same just different brand. Been on it probably just as long as you have but I'll be honest there has been a couple times when I've forgotton to take them and ended up just not taking them for months. Mainly because my mood fluctuates a lot and I tend to be quite emotionless and sometimes deal some days where I'm anxious and depressed.
My symtoms is hair growth as well especially on my chin and stomach lines. Excessive hair on my thighs and pubic areas. The first time I came of the pill, I noticed I started growing hair on by cheek and neck. It was if the level of androgens in my body surged so quickly soon as I came of the pill and as I plucked the became thicker some even coiled. After that I decided to take pictures of the amount hair I pluck each time I do so I can monitor the changes in hair growth. I went back on the pill because there was no way I wanted to increase the amount and thickness of hair on my face and neck. The second time, I decided to purposely come off the pill because I was going on holiday. So as you do when preparing to go on holiday, you shave, use hair removal cream, wax. Just get rid of the hair. And omg when the hair grew back it was so so noticeable, the hair I waxed off my stomach was thicker and longer same with my chin and cheeks. More hair grew on my neck too. Since then which was 5 months ago I've been taking the pill, and I can't remember I the last time I took a pic of the hair I plucked because there hasn't been a lot. I definitely want to try some natural method. I want to start by cutting out milk because apparently cows are not injected with hormones and all sorts. I want to attempt take IPL and see if hair ever grows back as I continue to take the pill and hopefully eventually come off. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle apparently helps. Regular exercise, Cutting out red meats. Haven't tried it out myself yet as I live with my family I'm fairly young.
When I came off the pill to try for a baby I put on 3 stone over the following 3 years, once I had Noah and finished breast feeding I went back on it and the weight started to come off. For me, I like the combined pill as it masks all the symptoms so makes life just that bit easier.
They also say the 6 months after coming off the pill is your most fertile time as your body is less pcos so you have an increased chance of conceiving in that window. My husband had dodgy sperm as well which didn't help!!
Hello, this happened to me. I came off my combined pill a few years ago, I was slightly under weight at the time and started to lose hair at the front of my head, I also didn’t have a period for 9 months. I then went back on the combined pill for two years. Since coming back off it last April to try for a baby, I weigh a stone heavier than before and started eating gluten free about two months before coming off it (unrelated reasons), and limiting dairy, started taking prenatal vitamins and I no longer experience hair loss on my head or extra growth elsewhere and my periods have returned although they are slightly irregular (every 33-44 days).
I was diagnosed with PCOS just 3 weeks ago after failing to get pregnant - we paid for private tests and they found cysts on my ovaries, and combined with irregular cycles I got the diagnosis. She said she I haven’t been ovulating and my bleed is a break through bleed where the lining of the uterus gets too heavy. She recommended I continue with a GF diet combined with a Mediterranean diet, start omega 3 supplements and also twice daily supplements called Inofolic. I’ve been doing this for almost a month now and I had my first every positive ovulation test this week. Hope this helps
