I was diagnosed with PCOS earlier this year after trying for over 12 months to get pregnant. Back in around March they started me on the first dose of clomid and nothing happened.. fast forward abit I found out at the end of June the strongest dose of clomid also hasn’t worked. My consultant at the time said I still needed to do day 18 and 21 bloods then after these have been done they will book me in for a chat about what’s next. He suggested either taking metaformin or “injections” but was implying I’m too young for injections.
Finally this week I have the next appointment to discuss the next step, after the cancelled my last appointment.
What’s everyone’s experience of metaformin and or injections? I know in their eyes I am still young (27, 28 next jan) but me and my partner have been trying 2 years this August and I really just wanna get things moving along.
Thanks in advance x

Metformin is not usually used for fertility as it is primarily a diabetes drug or if you have insulin resistance.
I presume they mean injections to force ovulation - clomid didn’t work for me, I conceived Noah via iui second attempt and he is now 13 - I was age 36 - our egg quality lasts better for longer so your age is good so don’t worry about that.
I’ve joined a Facebook group called PCOS diet support and 30 day challenge- so many ladies have conceived after following the diet (I need to lose about a stone or so)
I was doing iui with the injections so was monitored- one if my friends recommended The obesity code book by dr Jason fung I think it is which is about insulin and hormones- I’ve just started reading it, has excellent reviews
Hi! Definitely try metformin! Clomid didn’t work for me but then we tried metformin and clomid together and I ovulated and got pregnant straightaway! I’m not insulin resistant and the doctors have no idea why it worked..I’d say it’s worth a try! Good luck xx
Hi, thanks so much for your reply. I had my consultation today and they are putting a request for me to have ovarian drilling done. But because I pushed for it they have given me metaformin too. My results also came back that I wasn’t insulin resistant so he wasn’t going to give it to me to begin with.
I’m hoping maybe both these things will help. How long were you on metaformin before it worked?
Once I’ve had the drilling they are going to try me on clomid again I think.
I’m glad you have a good plan in place..it always feels better when you are taking action rather than just waiting around! Metformin worked straightaway for me..I started a new cycle with metformin and clomid together and it worked..started with one tablet a day and then gradually upped it to three as the instructions say..good luck! X
Yes I’m glad they finally seem to be doing something rather than just waiting! I’ve just wasted 6 weeks waiting and obviously not doing anything in the meantime.
He’s implied I won’t start clomid again until I’ve had the drilling.
I’ve never wanted a period so much before!! Lol
I’m on one tablet a day for a week then up to 2 tablets a day for the foreseeable.
