Difficulty in getting a pcos diagnosis - PCOS UK (Verity)
Difficulty in getting a pcos diagnosis
I can relate! I knew something was right and I strongly suspected PCOS due to symptoms. GP wouldn’t test so I had private blood tests which were normal. Went back to my GP and insisted on a scan. Ultrasound was normal until they done an internal scan and the nurse confirmed PCOS straight away! It was a relief in a way but now I am anxious about my health and what this means for my future.
I actually got referred and diagnosed when I was 16/17. The criteria for diagnosis of PCOS is really clear and straightforward. Either a gynaecologist or an endocrinologist can make the diagnosis.
Hi. Are you in the uk? I was told by my GP that you need to meet 3 of the criteria to get a formal diagnosis. My blood work came back normal however an ultrasound showed cysts, I had hair loss, hair growth, and weight gain. What tests have you had? Do you have many symptoms?
My story is quite a long one, but I had difficulty in getting a diagnosis, however I discovered in 2015 that in 2003 my gp had an 'abnormal' result on my hormone levels I was never called a diagnosis was not made until 2011 I went to see the nurse specialist on day 3 bloods. I came of my cilest pills 2009. no period for a year, ultra sound showed PCO cysts.
I had no idea how serious until I researched.
I had to see an endocrinologist before getting a diagnosis too. I saw 4 doctors and all turned me away and told me to come back if I got new symptoms.
