I was wondering what symptoms or characteristics of PCOS people had when they were diagnosed?
I’ve always had irregular or no periods when not on contraception and I have had excessive hair growth on my face since puberty. I have previously seen a GP regarding this (aged around 17) who sent me for a blood test that showed elevated levels of male hormones present, however no further investigation was carried out.
I’m now 26 and these symptoms have been part of my normal life but after seeing friends diagnosed I have noticed links with my own health and wondered if others had these symptoms. I know they’re common for the condition but is there anything else I should look out for or discuss with the GP when I ask about PCOS?
I also find it incredibly hard to lose weight, even following strict plans like SW... losses are small and slow compared to my peers.
Any help or advice is greatly appreciated xx

Thanks for replying. I was the same with periods when I was off the pill... didn’t have one for 9 months and it was going on the pill that started them again (I think?!).
Every time I came off the pill I didn't have a period for 9 months too, which happened twice. I was diagnosed by a private gynae as the GP kept saying the hormones will level out, I always remember him saying at the time I was quite hairy on my arms, which had never crossed my mind really, facial hair didn't really start getting going till I was early 20s.
Every time I came off the combined pill I would pile on the weight, one time was over Christmas and I put on a stone in two weeks, yes I did over eat but not a stones worth, so I pretty much have stayed on the combined pill on and off for the last 30 years which generally for me makes weight loss easier and masks the symptoms.
