Need PCOS advice

Hello guys,

I'm a female of 33 years old and suffering from PCOS symptoms for probably around 3 years now. Visited GP number of times had few blood tests, what they recommended is to have a proper diet and exercises to maintain healthy lifestyle. No pills recommended.

I have put on weight like 10-12 kg within last year. Loads of PCOS symptoms such as delayed in my cycles (I have got periods 2 times for this entire year), heavy flow for 4 days when it happened, hyperpigmentation, skin tags, rough skin, hair loss, mood swings. Meanwhile I cannot do cardio, high intensity workouts as I'm suffering from sciatic pain. Feel so hard to manage all these things and I cannot overcome this lack of self esteem. Always feeling stressful.

Can anyone recommend any medications apart from exercising and diet or fasting? Even though I'm following these it doesn't help me at all. And please let me know how to persuade GP to get a medication for this PCOS? And any idea how I could mitigate these symptoms? I feel so depressed, please kindly help me through sharing your opinion.

Thanks in advance!

I have just been diagnosed with PCOS after 6 years of 'unexplained infertility'Have you tried supplementing with inositol? I was recommended to start taking 3 X 500mg of inositol a day and also vitamin D supplement if your not already taking as PCOS girlies are often deficient in vitamin D.

Hello! I got diagnosed with PCOS in May 2023 and my doctor put me on a medication called Metformin. It has been amazing - I’ve lost a stone in weight and no more acne at all. My periods are also regular now too (every 31-34 days).

It is a medication used to treat diabetes but it can be prescribed off-label to people with PCOS.

I also made some lifestyle changes - I go to the gym 3 times a week and go for long walks (4-5 miles) twice a week. I also only eat brown carbs (bread, pasta, rice etc). I also take myoinositol supplements. I’ve been pregnant once since I was diagnosed but sadly this ended with a ruptured ectopic pregnancy - but I do think the medication helped me to get pregnant.

Sorry to jump on someone else's post here, but could I ask what brand of myoinositol you took please? x

Hi hope you don’t mind me replying, I took myo insositol on the back of a private consultation I had whilst I waited to see an NHS consultant and she suggest Inofolic Alpha to me, so that’s what I took. I took the Alpha plus version because of my BMI.

Thank you for replying, I'll have a look into that. Hope you don't mind me asking but did taking it work or help you? x
