I've recently been diagnosed with PCOS after years of absent or few periods and currently I haven't had a period for over 1 year. As background, I'm 31, my BMI is around 20, I am athletic, and have done some type of sport or workout everyday since my teenage years.
I've been put on 1000mg Metformin and really would like to menstruate as I'd like children. How long should I try Metformin before I would expect results, or before trying something else?
Thanks

You must have 4 periods a year to keep your uterus healthy so make sure your smears are up to date. Metformin is a bit of ? when it comes to pcos, if you are insulin resistant it can help massively, where you tested prior to being put on it? It is primarily a diabetes drug and not licensed in the UK for pcos.
Also remember that a period does not mean you ovulate and you can ovulate without one too so dont focus too much on periods (except to make sure you have 4 a year). I had relatively regular periods but rarely ovulated.
