I was wondering if anyone has any experience with Metformin?
I’m currently going into my second week and am upping the dosage on Friday from 500mgs to 1000mgs.
Haven’t had many side effect apart from feeling nauseous for the first few days but seems to have settled a bit.
I was just wondering when to expect some results? I generally eat healthy- although lately been giving in to chocolate cravings! I don’t do any exercise- would it help speed up the weight loss if I did?
I’ve read a lot of success stories and majority of people seem to see major weight loss results within the first few weeks! I know Metformin isn’t the solution to weight loss but I’m desperate as healthy eating doesn’t seem to work for me at all- annoying when family and friends can lose weight so easily when you’re doing the same thing but your weight isn’t budging!
Sorry for all the questions! Very new to this!

Often the weight loss is caused by the awful side effects which you are not having, were you tested for insulin resistance prior to being put on it ? It can work well with some pcos ladies who are IR but the majority of pcos ladies it doesn't help apart from give you an seriously upset tum which causes weight loss which then improves the symptoms due to the weight loss!!
Unfortunatly its a catch 22 helps pcos if you lose weight but pcos makes it hard to lose weight. I personally joined slimming world which is really helpful as you get the support and the weekly weigh ins give you the motivation to stay on track mine also have facebook group with lots of ideas for meals. I lost 4 stone put 2 back due to going off the rails over christmas but slowly chopping it back off. With exercise it helps but its finding what you like to do if its a chore you will avoid doing it. i walk dog and play just dance with my daughters as the gym can be a bit intimidatimg. Good luck with your weight loss im sure you can do it 😊
I am also going on Metformin, I am just waiting to pick up my prescription. I also eat really clean, about 1400 calories a day and exercise 3/4times a week but it isn't working at all. I would love to hear how you are getting on over the next few weeks as I also have all of that to come!
Thank for all of your advise- I was tempted to re-join slimming world but the last time I was on it I hardly lost anything! But thinking about it, it was probably down the fact that I wasn’t on the right level of Levothyroxine, so I might actually give it another go!
I’ll definitely post an update in a few weeks about my Metformin journey- although still really sceptical about it!
I’m on metformin for fertility rather than weight loss. I’ve been on it for 6 months 1500g a day. I have lost 10lbs (I had a bmi at the start of 22) so I didnt need to loose weight. But I’ve found the metformin means I eat less as I have less of an appetite and I get diarrhoea a couple of times a week. So I think it can work for weight loss but I’d argue it’s not necessarily the best way x
i am day 8 of taking metformin and moved to 2 tablets a day yesterday. I'm taking it to help with fertility and weight loss. Also not seen many side effects but hoping its just early days.
Hi, i'm loosing about a pound a week which is the same as before taking the tablets. not pregnant yet either. trying to stay positive. had a few days where i have felt sick and had unsettled stomach but nothing major.
