hi, i have recently been put on to cerazette and i have been told from my doctor not to take a week off, like just stay on them completely. he said that this will make my ovaries go to "sleep", i'm just wondering if anyone has had experience with cerazette? and if its possible to still get my period as i'm a little confused as to what he meant by them going to sleep. thanks

As far as I know Cerazette is supposed to be taken back to back. It's a progestin mini pill. I don't recall anything in the literature referring to break weeks. I think you only need break weeks when a pill has estrogen in it.

The best I can figure by 'going to sleep' is that it interrupts the natural hormonal cycle and will cause the ovaries not to produce so much estrogen and testosterone, but I kinda hate it when doctors get vague like that.

I had periods at first on it, wound up with barely negligible spotting at the end, but I had negative side effects so I begged to be switched to something else. That said, Cerazette doesn't actually do much for PCOS treatment aside from stopping the cycles.

So more or less, I may not get my period? Which I'm barely getting at the moment.

Thanks for replying!

You may not. And it may take a while to stop.

I know I actually finally started getting mine again when I first started taking it, because I hadn't been having any before, then it started tapering off.

YMMV because PCOS and BCP affects each of us differently with our different body chemistry.

Hi how long did you have a period for when you first started taking cerazette I was on the implant then they put me on this for pcos symptoms because of the implant I’ve not had a period in 3 years I’ve nearly finished my first month of this pill and I’ve not stopped bleeding will it ever stop?

I would say see a doctor. Long term bleeding means something is off kilter enough to warrant a visit.

The combined pill is better than a pop pill from a pcos point of view. I take 2-3 months of the combined pill back to back as it reduces the symptoms further. What are your main symptoms as I know some pop pills are better than others if you cannot take the combined pill.

I have been on the combined pill, but I feel like that was making my symptoms worse. I have really bad facial hair, but I feel like when I was on the combined pill it was a lot worse and I was sweating more than usual.

Which one? Because not all combined pills are equal and not all are recommended for PCOS. Some have androgenic progestin in them, like Microgynon, which is one of the worst to be prescribed if you have PCOS. One of the side effects in women with normal body chemistry is hirsutism. Doctors like to prescribe that for PCOS because it's the cheapest.

I was previously on Dianette, I'm positive it's combined.

in reply to emmaq4534

It is, but that's rather odd as increasing hirsutism is not a side effect I'm aware of with Dianette. Dianette is a recommended for PCOS combined pill and has an anti-androgenic progestin in it. It's prescribed to reverse hirsutism.
