Have you been investigated for endometriosis ? Endo usually causes pain rather than pcos and if you are having it when you don't have your period then this sounds more like endo, it is not uncommon apparently to have both pcos and endo either.

I'm currently waiting to be investigated by my gynaecologist

It needs to be looked at by an endocrinologist rather than a gynae as pcos and endo is their area of expertise.
