I am 42 diagnosed at 15 with PCOS have all the usual symptoms weight gain, hairs everywhere, spots and low mood but over time have learned to cope with them . Only managed to conceive once have 19 yr Son. From 15 had severe bleeds 2 per month so have had the mirena coil for 13 yrs
I have recently began having other symptoms b12 and folate deficiency severe migraines, palpitations, brain fog, hair loss, psoriasis, sensitivity to cold all seem to get worse around menstrual cycle which has now shortened to 2 wks again feeling rotten.
Gp doesnβt know if itβs autoimmune or hormonal but not getting anywhere and totally fed up.
Is anyone else having similar problems am wondering if itβs pre menopause or something but feel like my body not working anymore and canβt go on like this
Thanks in advance of replies Em x

What is your family history on menopause, did your GP do a blood test? I'm 47 and I am finding things are changing around my period (I am still on the combined pill tho but still I can see changes in my normal routine, including the lovely brain fog - nice!!)
My friend has the coil and has just been put on HRT patches and she feels much better (I didn't realise you could go on them with the coil but apparently you can).
I am on floradix which does help with the tiredness that I am feeling and I have just ordered some myo-inositol (amazon, the powder variety as it is cheaper) as this can level out hormones so I thought it was worth a try, it can help with losing weight too which I am struggling a bit with too more recently!!
The other thing I eat, which I swear by - I had a chronic sinus infection about 4 years ago which went undiagnosed for 4 months so became chronic (I paid to go to a private ENT dr) and since then (was on anti biotics for 4 months), I have been eating live yoghurt (I use easiyo type one that you make yourself) and I am rarely unwell now, I eat it every day. So I would eat live yoghurt daily to get your gut bacteria in good shape as it holds the key to most of your body in my opinion (not suggesting it will resolve your issues but may help if your gut is good)
Thanks for reply and useful information. I agree re gut bacteria and I do have chronic constipation so definitely worth trying. My Mum had a difficult menopause and seems to suffer from early 40s onwards, I did mention this to Gp she checked bloods and thinks am still ovulating she also checked thyroid and said was just within normal range,
Donβt know if I should just pay to go and see endocrinologist I think all my symptoms are linked to cycle and donβt think Gp agrees she now considering referral to haematology am just confused with it all and a bit fed up
You can have regular periods but still be at the start of the menopause, it can be 10 years before it actually starts that you get symptoms so I personally would go back to the GP, maybe google all you can on peri-menopause to get a list of possible symptoms!
Good luck, try the live yoghurt, you should notice a difference in about 2-3 weeks of having it daily.
Thank you I have just read it and feel like they are describing me. I was quite annoyed with my Gp last wk when she stated screening me for depression and explained to her the physical symptoms contributing to my mood - feel like printing this article out and taking it with me! will get some yogurt and start it ASAP
Thanks again as was beginnning to feel like a looney Em x
Well I have bitten the bullet and booked an appt to see an endocrine specialist, feel like Iβve put up with this for long enough. Need to see someone who can help me not ply me with antid-depressants
ooh good luck, let me know how it goes - one thing that started me thinking about it was when I was in my teens I had really spotty arms, which cleared up as I got to my 20's and I have started getting them again so something hormonal is going on even though I am on the combined pill - just little things are all adding up together. My periods aren't quite he same either so actually think of all the little things too that you hadn't associated with it.
Fingers crossed you get it sorted and feel 'normal' again. Start on the yoghurt too as that will help massively within a few weeks, you wont get the colds doing the rounds as much as others etc so well worth a try!
Can I suggest Tranexamic acid (ask you GP) for reduction of bleeds and myoinositol (MyOva) high doze 4g per day for balancing your hormones and reducing side-effects. Also if you are taking Metformin, this may cause depletion of vit B12. You are also probably loosing a lot of blood and need iron (ferritin) supplementation. Also check your Vit D level ant take vit D3 supplementation should your blood results show depletion. This would improve you mood and energy level.
