I have been asked this question by a young lady looking after her mum, so I thought I would ask in the community. I have given her details where to find out but just wondered if anyone had any personal experience.

I filled all the forms out for my mother in law earlier on in the year, she has parkinson's disease, the form is similar to the DLA form and asks how things affected her and concentrated on that rather than a diagnosis. It took me a long time as I struggle to fill forms out with a pen but they are available electronically now which makes it a little easier.

I had carers allowance for my husband when he was on DLA. I would recommend her to apply as she wont get it if she doesnt apply. It also gave me more say in his treatment both at home and in hospital. It also has a bearing on her employment status.
