Vitiligo is thought to be an autoimmune disorder - anyone who has one autoimmune disorder is at increased risk of developing another.

I have developed small white patches on my arms this year. Showing up more since summer. I don't know if this is vitiligo but will ask my consultant on Monday.

Small patches of skin with no melanin are common when on pred - it is a speeding of the aging of skin and natural redistribution of melanin (the stuff that gives you a suntan). I had quite a few such patches, mostly large freckle sized, when on higher doses of pred but this summer my suntan is back to being much more even as I get to much lower doses of pred.

I have had vitiligo for over 40 years. When I had cylophosamide some areas reinvented. However the doctor who advises the vitiligo society said this was more likely to be down to prednesolone. Certainly since I stopped taking pred I have had a lot more white patches appear. Seems to be making up for lost time.

I developed Vitiligo at the age of 18. I was diagnosed with Wegenener's (GPA) at 35. Interestingly, my Mother also had Vitiligo.

I apparently suffer from Vitiligo as well as GPA(Wegeners). I have never been told of a connection, but it's funny that I never had Vitiligo before I was diagnosed with GPA. I have not been on steroids for a few years now, but the white patches still show up on my arms every summer. Interesting...
