Low blood count

My GP has just phoned to say my blood count has been gradually dropping over last few blood tests. I am on mycophenate motofil (Cellcept) and mepacrine. I feel ok except from being really tired which I've put down to other medication. She is chasing up my rhuemie appointment but I wondered what do they do in these circumstances?

Thank you.

One thing I've learnt in 5+ years of having WG is to be proactive and not wait for 'the system'. It's had enough dealing with the direct effects of the disease but unnecessary delay can cause permanent damage.

I'm fortunate that I access my consultants directly and if they're not available I speak to their secretary who you'll often find can work their own little miracles! The fact that there's a rapid deterioration in your test results which is manifesting itself physically is clearly of concern and needs to be investigated as soon as possible.

Don't be afraid to insist to get what you need! :-)

Healthy wishes.

Hi

this happened to me last year and I agree with Martin. I deteroiated rapidly but called Consultants sec, got advice and was called into the hospital and got help. Don't wait for GP's your condition can change very quickly with potentially disasterous results. call your Rheum sec or specialist nurse asap.

Good luck

With my Vasculitis I was Haemolytically Anaemic for a while - the Vasculitis was destroying red blood cells.

My Hb level dropped to 6-8 and left me unable to walk far, breathless, tired and generally feeling ill.

As the others have said, get some help asap. My condition got the point where I had to have multiple blood transfusions to keep me going. But you may get away with some iron tablets or an iron infusion. Your GP would be a good start but you may need to see a Haematologist to get a proper diagnosis/treatment.

All the best, Richard.
