Hi All. I have started to have problems with my eyes. No pain but am getting a cloudy discharge and a rash and swelling around both eyes. Has anyone had anything similar..clouds my vision for a bit until I can wash my face. What does everyone think..one for the GP or Addenbrookes?

Hi EGPAGuy. I had something similar last year, it was happening on a lead up to Christmas just waking up and getting a bit of discharge, I thought it was an after effect from Laser Surgery I had late November due to a retinal tear but it wasn’t. It went away for a couple of weeks then came back, I booked in for an eye test they referred my to my GP, turns out it was conjunctivitis (Viral type) I don’t have access to Adenbrokes, I live too far away and have done ok without them so can’t comment but GP could be a starting point. Nick.

Thanks Nick. I have had conjunctivitis before and this doesn't seem to be the same at all. No pain or itchiness or swelling on eyelids. Of course viral could be different to bacterial

Hi EGPAGuy, I had eye issues because of Vasculitis. Had blurry vision, one of the eye had droppy eyelid with swelling. I was advised by the one of my specialist doctor to check with eye clinic immediately as and when it happens. If you are unaware, there is an emergency eye referral service online or you can call them and they will give an appointment to assess you. For me, the GP had a hard time getting a referral from eye clinic on the day. Even with prescription medication, the pain in my eyes and vision were ongoing issues on and off for more than 4 months now. I continue getting pain but with less frequency.

Thanks PreetyK. Have contacted GP and Addenbrookes..unaware of emergency eye referral service so will check that out. Appreciate the tip

Hi EPGA Guy,

I was diagnosed with GPA an early two years ago. Prior to diagnosis and ever since I’ve had similar eye problems to you which I have been told is Blepharitis. My eyes are constantly watery so use dry eye drops. When I wake up my eyes are often stuck together so clean with warm water and Johnson’s baby shampoo to clear all the crustiness away.

I hope this helps.

You could be right..blepharitis seems most consistent with my symptoms so GP should sort.

My husband has EGPA and suffers from the same issue with his eyes. GP has diagnosed blepharitis , he uses eye drops x cleans with gentle soapy water. He also has many skin nodules all over his body x head and one in the corner of his eye which may be a contributing factor? Not sure if anyone else with EGPA has noticed any skin nodules but would be interested to find out. GP doesn't seem too concerned about them.

Hey Beaniebabe. Yeah have the same deal with blepharitis and skin tags round my eyes and neck mainly. This turned out to be a nasty viral infection in my eyes which thankfully has all cleared up now and not egpa related. Hope everyone is well out there. Lev

Thanks EGPA guy, I'm pleased your eye infection has cleared up now and sounds like the skin tags are part of the condition. My husband is doing well at moment, hope you are too :)

Yeah..I must say my health improved hugely when I switched from Mepo to Benra. I have managed to taper down pred to just 1.5 mg/day and hopeful of getting off it completely. Not wishing to tempt faye but am feeling great. Glad your hubby is 👍
