Evusheld update

Here's the announcement we received today. Devastating for immunocompromised patients.

A government spokesperson said:

“Following a robust review of the available data, our clinical experts advise there is currently insufficient data on the duration of protection offered by Evusheld in relation to the Omicron variant and the government will not be procuring any doses at this time.

“We are determined to support the most vulnerable as we live with Covid and immunocompromised patients are a priority for other treatments, access to free tests and vaccination.

“We continue to explore the market for promising treatments that could prevent infection, to add to the antibody and antiviral treatments that are already offered on the NHS. We remain in close touch with all relevant parties.”

I would love to know why the government are so anti Evushield. Even the Americans seem to be giving it a go. They had stopped giving Astra Zeneca vaccines for Covid too. I wonder if someone from Astra Zeneca has upset them?

They are exactly the type of government to make decisions based on personal relationships so highly likely

This news comes just as a study is released showing Evusheld has shown good response to Omicron variants, so it is total nonsense.

The CEO of Astra Zeneca said the government are talking rubbish and that Evushield is very effective for omicron, while the government says it isn’t!

What an absolute sickner! Kicked in the teeth once more and left to rot.

Dreadful news! Doesn’t make any sense to me. If it’s about costs, then surely preventing infection is cheaper than treating us in hospital.

The only positive I can think of is if the Government have something else lined up from a different supplier.

There was a bit about it on the BBC radio 4 Today programme today. It seems Raab and Landsley are surprised by the UK decision too.

I'm am absolutely gutted and distressed to read this utterly ridiculous response from the government. I'm far from shocked though, which is extremely sad in itself.... Just when I was letting myself get just a tiny bit excited about the potential freedom Evusheld would give us. They're blatantly lying about the efficacy of the medication, it stinks! I feel extremely unimportant to the government yet again, no matter what they say. It's all about actions! I've had 2 bouts of Covid since emerging from Sheilding after over 2 years. I've been so careful, but tried desperately to live a little too. I've been really poorly with both infections and yes, the antivirals have kept me out of hospital, but that's not enough. I've had weeks of antibiotics for the nasty chest infection which followed and been treated to months of Long Covid too. My body can't keep taking these hits. I already have enough chronic illnesses to deal with, like most if us here :(

There you go, announcement on the Moderna ‘Super’ vaccine. Proves one thing we have been forgotten, great news for everybody apart from us where it will make little or no difference. There was an article in the US equivalent of the Lancet last month and that since omicron statistically over 70% of registered deaths from Covid are those who are immune compromised which is roughly down 10% because of vaccine / anti viral treatment but since the introduction by the FDA of Evusheild in March Data is suggesting that this figure is expected to fall to 30%. It’s a no brainer.
