Delay in Rituximab

Hi my OH was due his second RTX as part of his 2 year schedule. He has developed a throat infection and after contacting the hospital his RTX for tomorrow is delayed. He is well in himself, no temperature and appetite ok. Just more tired than usual.

Will this delay cause any problems? He had his last one 2 weeks ago.

He is waiting to hear from his GP re antibiotics and will stop his MMF.

Dear Main1234,

I assume that by 'RTX, you mean Rituximab.... if you don't then I'm sorry but I'm not Familiar with, the Term 'RTX'. I DO know Mycophenolate MoFetil, as I was 'on' it myself, some years ago.

Generally speaking however, most Drugs/ Treatments CAN be 'Delayed'- especially when Medically 'approved'. You have also indicated that, your Hubby, is 'Well In Himself'- which is always a good Sign.

I wouldn't Worry, over a Short Delay, but I would 'Chase' this- politely of course- if you haven't 'heard' fairly soon.

Sorry that I can't be, any more, help Main1234. Sending, you both, my

Very Best Wishes.

Dear Main1234,

I was never on Rituximab myself, mind you it's about ONLY Drug that haven't 'Had', or that's the way it 'seems'!

I'm having my Second 'Jab' on Saturday the First (of May), at the local Hospice- where I had the first Vaccination. I have to say that our Local Hospice, in conjunction with My GP Surgery (and probably others too) really Has Organised 'things' well- hats off to them.

Hopefully you will be 'Sorted Out' soon too! Best wishes, my friend

I was supposed to get rituximab December past. I have had 2 pfizer vaccinations and I waiting for the appointment letter. The rheumatologist told me to wait 2 months after the jabs to see if antibodies build up. Apparently because of rituximab and azathioprine I probably have none anyway. I read an article about it I will try and put it on here.

Thank you for your reply Louise112. He has had his RTX 2 weeks ago and was due for 2nd infusion on Friday but was cancelled due to infection hence my query.

He had his Covid vaccines 4 weeks apart as recommended.

Hi there, I wouldn’t worry if treatment is delayed a little while. I’ve often had mine delayed if I have any sign of an infection, the infusion units are very cautious about administering rituximab if there is an infection or even a suspected one. Hopefully it wont be too long a wait. Take care
