Cold & nasal polyops

Hi I am due for nasal polyop surgery in 4 days. Yesterday I began to have symptoms of a cold& sore throat. I know that they won't operate if you are sick. Any suggestions on what to take that would help my symptoms Dealing with nasal polops & a cold is awful.

As I see you posted 2 months ago, you may have resolved all these issues by now.

I can only say that you need to see your GP to determine if the chest infection is bacterial. A cold is a virus and needs to run its course. But if you have a bacterial infection, then you need antibiotics.

I do empathize because, as a 14 year old, I had nasal polyps caused by allergies. The allergist said that there was no point in operating until allergy testing was completed; which took a long time. I had to wait and had polyps literally hanging out of my nose; never without a tissue on hand. And I had my first "serious" boyfriend at the time who was supportive.

I also perceived a foul odor coming from my nose; infection . Eventually, I had the surgery at an Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat hospital in New York. I was sedated, but I could hear the tearing as they were being removed, but no pain. Cocaine was used as a local anesthetic in addition to the IV sedation. When they were out, I could breathe again and they never returned. I said to the surgeons, I can finally breathe again, and he responded "sorry" , but we have to pack your nose to prevent bleeding. I was getting allergy shots every week until I went to college. At some point, the packing came out and all was well.

That was over 50 years ago, and techniques may be entirely different.

But do wait until you get the all clear sign from your physician and surgeon. I know how awful it would be to have a URI and polyps at the same time. ; extremely uncomfortable. Do let us know the outcome.

PS. I had a cold while on 16mg of Prednisone and it took well over a month to clear up.
