TRAVEL INSURANCE

There is plenty of advice about travel insurance on VUK site, but I wondered if anyone had recently found companies who provide good service and rates. I have had GPA for 5 years and been in remission for 4 years. I am travelling to Japan for a week in December.

I don’t have a company to recommend but I do have a warning. I was insured for my holiday last year with Get Going. They cancelled my insurance when I informed them a couple of months after taking it out that I was waiting to have my sinuses washed out. Not exactly a life threatening procedure but they, like other companies won’t insure if you are waiting for any procedure to be carried out. They weren’t even going to give my premium back until I caused a fuss.

Have a great time in japan.

We recently got holiday insurance from Sainsburys, their rates were reasonable and they even offered us an annual policy. Their online application questionaire isn't too stressful either and they also offer 3 levels of cover. Perhaps worth a try, enjoy your holiday.

I have used both Staysure and Justtravel, both recommended by Vasculitis U.K. It is important that you use a company who accept pre existing medical conditions, and you answer all questions relating to your health. As you say, it will be difficult if you are waiting for any medical procedures. Both of these companies accept people with Vasculitis

Hi my husband has GPA we have just insured for 1 year with medi sure This is to cover USA up to £10 million and is world wide except cruses! They were very helpful. It covered holiday for 100 days. We thought it was good value and gave us piece of mind.

Enjoy Japan

We used insure4medical

We found it cheaper to buy annual insurance rather than a 2 week policy

Many thanks for all the above replies which are very helpful. So far I have used the price comparison site allcleartravel.co.uk for people with pre-existing conditions and received numerous quotes which are cheaper than I expected, but I have not decided on which one yet.
