Mark, found out about Wegener’s about 2 months ago! Did the 4 chemo infusions. Now have diabetes! Looking for low salt/ renal kidney diet, any suggestions? I have one kidney and it’s functioning at 25%!

If you don’t mind can I ask where Mark is seen for his WG? When you say chemo infusions do you mean cyclophosphamide? If so people usually have at least 6 infusions initially with a follow on maintenance regime using immune suppressing drugs.

People usually experience an improvement in renal function following adequate induction treatment this improvement happens gradually over several weeks. Did Mark have diabetes before treatment ? Did he have steroids ( prednisolone ) for a long time?

There is a link via the vuk website for the Kidney Research UK discussing diet and recipes if this is helpful kidneyresearchuk.org/health...

You need to see a good NHS state registered dietitian. Your consultant should have already referred you. Push for a referral asap.

Mark,

Curious, how were you diagnosed? And by what kind of specialist? What were the symptoms that made you see a physician? Is the diabetes a result of the infusions? And what was the medication in the infusions?

I went to internal med doc cause I was peeing all night long, he referred me to nephrologist. He did kidney biopsy. 4 rounds of Ritauxin also 3 rounds of 1000mgs of steroids. And diabetes from Predisone!

Not what you're looking for?
