I have ANCA Vasculitis (p ANCA). I’m 71 years old, developed ANCA vasculitis at 67 years of age. I have permanent kidney damage (stage 3 CKD) as a result of the disease. I’m female. I smoked from the time I was 14 until I quit at age 35. I quit off & on in between those years & approximate I smoked 1 pack a day for 14 years. My disease is considered in “remission” for a little under 3 years - no flares.
I cannot say anything about vasculitis but I suffer with ulcerative colitis as well as GPA/Wegeners and they know, for sure, that cessation of smoking can make getting UC much at a much higher percentile.
My specialist for the inflammatory bowel disease has given people nicotine patches to relieve symptoms but some people who have not ever smoked can feel dizzy and sick.
I’m just going to guess that if smoking and packing it up can make getting ulcerative colitis easier to have then I would fully expect it to have an effect on the immune system. Maybe it’s best to talk this through with your specialist ?
I feel for you and everyone who suffers these awful diseases
I started smoking at school, I went to a Boarding School (enough said) and smoked until I fell ill, in 2005. I was thirty five, when I just collapsed...No 'warning', nothing. By the time I was out of Hospital, it felt like 'Forever' but was actually about three months, I was not smoking. I haven't done so since, not even wanted to. i was told of a 'Possible', though rather Tenuous, link between Smoking and Vasculitis.
