My husband has to go for a biopsy next week, as Drs are unsure if he has this condition. He was admitted unto hospital last year with swelling of the knee and high temps and stayed for 2 weeks.

Hi steffs,

There are over 18 different types of Vasculitis. Where are they taking the biopsy from and does the Consultant have experience in diagnosing Vasculitis?

If your husband became unwell last year that seems a long time to wait.

The swelling was in his knee, he had a knee replacement about 10 yrs ago so to start with he was treated for an infection in the joint, but then medical teams saw him did all sorts of blood tests. We had been on holiday in Dominica Republic in October and he had been unwell with D&V so to him to Drs there and was treated with antibiotics, his bloods showed that he had had salmonella which is the likely cause. He has seen Rheumatology and has had more bloods going for ENT biopsy next week and scan the following week. From what I have read from the booklets from the hospital there is different types of vasculitis.

Hi Steffs,

Does your husband have nasal symptoms, if not then there is no point in biopsing his nose.

It might be useful to phone or e mail the VUK helpline and talk things over with either myself or John. My e mail address is lynn@vasculitis.org.uk, this is the link to the helpline

It's possible to get an Inflamatory Arthritis secondary to food poisoning and other infections, I am guessing they have ruled that out?

Best wishes
