Burning & tingling sensation

Hi, I've been getting a tingling & burning sensation in my feet since last year & feel like it's getting worse. My mom had pheriphal vascular disease & was wondering if it's hereditary? Any advice would be grateful

Hi Sally,

Sorry to hear about your symptoms.

I don't know if you are aware that peripheral vascular disease is a different condition from Vasculitis. Have you been to see your GP with the symptoms?

Didn't know that. My doctor just thinks it's arthritis

Hi Sally

I have similar symptoms, diagnosed as peripheral neuropathy. I also have PMR and GCA and unfortunately now steroid induced diabetes. However for the peripheral neuropathy I was prescribed Amitriptyline. The aim of which is to help with the nerve pain. I would go back to my GP and ask for diabetes to be ruled out and to consider how your symptoms can be treated. I keep my feet uncovered at night and use a fan when the burning and tingling gets too much. Hope this helps.

Good luck.

Margaret

Hi Sallym

I am just wondering if it is worth asking your neurologist or rheumatologist if it is erythromelalgia or 'burning feet syndrome'. I think neurologists seem to know more about it in my own experience. If you think there is a hereditary component, then good to see Prof David Bennett at the John Radcliffe Hospital Oxford as he will do a genetic test. He specialises in primary EM . Of course I may be completely wrong but it has taken some of us years to get a diagnosis, and best to go quickly to the right specialist.

All best

Have you had your B12 levels checked? Even if it appears normal, a functional B12 deficiency can be the cause of peripheral neuropathy. My mum died as a result of vasculitis (MPA), which was discovered too late for treatment to be totally effective. She had peripheral neuropathy for years. I have had it a couple of years and am paranoid about vasculitis. Good luck with finding out what it causing it and keep an open mind.
