Good to get checked asap! I ignored lower leg rash for too long which finally became ANCA Vasculitis diagnosis. Good luck!

I hope you get your test soon. If you need to speak to someone there’s a vasculitis U.K. helpline you could ring. Good luck with your biopsy at least when you get a diagnosis you can get treatment.

There are lots of different skin rashes, and some look very similar, so a biopsy is the right idea. Here are a couple of images of confirmed HSP rashes. As you say, it's horrible and distressing.

IgA vasculitis is another name for Henoch-Schönlein Purpura (HSP). IgA is one of the many types of antibody found in the blood. The 'Ig' bit stands for 'immunoglobin'. That's what the laboratory will look for in the biopsy (along with many other possibilities).

Two photos of HSP IgA skin rashes, as examples.

Thanks for your reply.Do you know if thr anesthetic injection before biopsy is sore.. how far it will go in.. to bone or just skin? I'm scared.

I'm also scared about infections as my immune systems really poor at moment. 🥺

A local anaesthetic will be used. I don't know whether it will be applied as a gel/spray or injected with a small needle. Don't worry: neither the injection nor the biopsy will go beyond the skin. Certainly not into the muscle or bone.

Thank you for your reply.

Iv now been for the biopsy.

They used a small needle. That was this morning. I'm now home lying down as feel sick and weird. Also biopsy area is sore. They took two rather than the one I was told.

Do you know how long it might be for results? As I wasn't given a timescale.

Any advice on healing? -foods to eat to heal wounds or herbs to consume

Biopsies are normally turned around quickly, so it should be days rather than weeks. Treat the biopsy wound like you would any minor cut or graze: cleanse it gently once a day; put a fresh plaster over it only if clothes might rub; and take paracetamol for pain. It should scab over and fill in naturally. Don't pick it! Put a dab of mild antiseptic cream on it (eg. Savlon) if it gets infected (eg yellow pus appears).

Iv to keep it dry for 48 hr. Then cleanse, they gave me an antibiotic eye gel for it, although it's on my leg. It's not hurting too much I'm surprised.

Iv now to go for a renal clinic app, ultrasound of kidneys as protein showed up in sample.

They actually took a biopsy of the newer red spot which was difficult to the very first rash.. which was Luke raised blood pimples and thr newer rash more just red dots now. The raised ones healed up again.

Feel quite down as reading all about pernicious anemia which iv been told I have, sounds awful, irreversible and almost can be ftal.

So bit down.

Thanks so much for reply

I'm glad they've given you an antibiotic gel. There are lots of blood vessels in the kidneys, so it's not unusual for vasculitis to affect them, too. The tests and biopsies will narrow down exactly which version you have, and will point towards the best treatment. Don't worry about lists of everybody else's symptoms! It's only yours that matter!
