I asked this question in the VUK FB support group and this is a reply from a lovely young lady called Kelly. "When I saw my Dermatologist I was told the discolouration would fade over time/years if no further flares. Dr also recommended moisturising. Its also possible to get a referral to the Red Cross who can make up colour match camouflage cream to cover it up. My rheumy referred me a lot years ago. Unfortunately for me when flaring it wouldn't cover the purpura rash but if it's the scarring it could help."

I still have brownish marks on my legs but tights in winter and a tinted sun cream in summer work pretty well. My rash is in remission with Rituximab at the moment (wonderful) but when the rash is bad, I just wear trousers because my legs are like telegraph poles then so I just hide the lot!

I am afraid I have not asked, I was just so pleased when they faded from being so swollen and violently coloured.

Yes they DO fade, over time. Have patience-I know you do about 'everything' else!

When in flare I get raised dark red/purple blotches then as the meds get the flare under control they flatten out and fade a bit. As I go into remission and the disease is under control they slowly fade away.

I have been told that moisturising and/or bio oil might help but haven't tried it yet.

Interesting posts. I get these red/purple blotches when under stress and once I realize that and pull back from what is bothering me so much they fade. I often wondered if they were a warning sign that a flare was about to occur. I have been in remission (whatever that is) for four years and when I see these spots I panic a bit. I am on antidepressants and will take Ativan when stress level rises.

Stress certainly is a contributing factor to my flares and the purple patches are usually one of the first signals this is happening. Unfortunately life is very stressful at the moment and there is no way to avoid it. :(
