My pleasure. Dr Sivasothy at Addenbrookes suggested this kind of organ replacement might be available in reality in 15-20 years although who knows whether 'grown' organs will last longer than transplanted ones. I was quite surprised to learn that transplanted lungs only last about 5 years and kidneys around 10 years.

I think part of that is the immune-suppressant therapy required to suppress rejection can damage the tissue. That won't be needed if they can grow organs from the patient's own stem cells - it won't be "foreign" to the patient's immune system.

I understand that's the case so let's hope the advances can be accelerated!
