Hi Everyone, At the moment I am 5 days in a bad Tinnitus spike and not getting any quieter, everything I try, breathing exercise, going for a walk, diy, music masking, etc, nothing will make it better. No stress, no health issues, never had a bad spike for more than 5 days, no point in contacting GP will only get told to learn to live with it!! Any help to what I can do to reduce my spike? Thanks Alan
5 Day Spike: Hi Everyone, At the moment I am... - Tinnitus UK
5 Day Spike
Just the breathing exercises, and distracting the brain by giving it something else do to.
Hi Alan, I have white noise generators for each ear, that helps me. I have worn them for a few years now, not all the time. These have sounds like waves coming and going. Mine came from my audiologist. Breathing exercises, trying to relax.
Take care, Marian.
Hi,
Sorry to hear of the spike, as you say the biggest thing is to try and stop thinking about it which is easier said than done. When I get a spike I try and get myself to concentrate on something I enjoy. I usually play a video game and have either my white noise generator playing or music in the room. After about an hour I find I have calmed down and got to some level of habituation. Doing something I enjoy means I am not avoiding it (as if I do something to avoid it, it means its still front of me mind). Hope it gets better soon.
I noticed that pressing under the affected ear, maybe next to the end of the jaw, Pressing there the sound was calming, so I was wearing always a scarf to keep that area tight, and later on i have ordered a neck support brace soft because i noticed that it was helping, then it was better, much better, I also sleep on the side of the ear affected, and without pillow sometimes, Today i went to the GP for first time and she prescribed me Otomize spray, But i still lying down on the bed on my left side and I have my scarf always, hope this can help you
Hi bantams
I know what you are going through, just entering my 2nd day of T spike, very difficult to take your mind of it. Just wish there was a cure for this debilitating illness

Hi bantams
Sorry to hear you too have tinnitus
I had it since my early 30's - 71 now, after very noisy discos in the 70's
Did fine with it, till 4 years ago, when it ramped up to a level that stopped me sleeping - so took Benzos
However, 6 months ago, I had success with my Redefining the T, as NOT a NOISE or SOUND at all (which it isn't) but an ILLUSION/DELUSION that the brain has created, for whatever reason
After all, a powerful microphone placed by the ears would pick up NOTHING at all.
So, it's NOTHING!
Worked for me and I haven't needed Benzos for 7 months now!
If interested, please see my Post 7 months ago.
All the Best!

Hi Alps,
Thank you for your reply and your advice, totally agree with what you are saying and I am trying to treat my T as you say.
I am still having good days and bad days, but I think slowly I am getting better coping with my T, it`s making it harder at the moment being in lockdown again not able to meet family and friends and keep busy to occupy your brain on other things.
Stay Safe
Alan
