I'm on T3. If I have a Blue Horizon T3 blood test will it tell me if my dosage is correct?

Also, does anyone have any advice about how to proceed with the test? For example, do I have to stop taking my T3 for a while beforehand?

Are you going to just have the FT3 test done or a full thyroid test - you would get a better picture if you had the full test done.

I wouldn't take it an hour before the test but if you want an accurate result then take it as near to normal as you can - when do you take your T3, at what times?

Moggie sorry but I 'beg to differ' for someone on on T3 only a full thyroid panel is really a 'waste of money', if you are on T3 only your TSH will be suppressed and your fT4 will be next to zero, at least if you are on doses over 30mcg daily anyway.

Also no T3 to be taken for at least 12 hours to be honest, you will get high false fT3 levels in the blood if you take it any sooner and really the only reason to do bloods is to keep the NHS doctors happy or any doctor who prescribes as they don't tell you if you are on the right dose of T3, not for T3 only therapy anyway.

My son is privately on T3 only and our private doctor only wants fT3 levels' nothing else, and doctor wants those only to 'cover back' as he's treated by symptoms really.

Good point NBD - that's why I asked her what time she took her meds. If she took them all in one go of a night, like some on here, then there would be no need to change her timings, I also didn't know she was on 30+mcg's so I stand corrected.

I don't know either how many mcg's the poster is on but was just saying that for most people (especially if on higher doses than 30) then the TSH will be suppressed :)

way to go - thanks for that NBD - about to have blood test and now know to stop the T3 for 12, cheers.

Before blood tests I would not take any thyroid medication until afterwards..

Blue horizon will tell you the levels but not if the dosage is correct. The way you know you have the correct dose of any thyroid medication is that you feel better with symptoms diminished or gone.

If you were taking too much of thyroid meds, you would soon know by being overstimulated and not feeling so good.

I know you have had various advice, but I take my T3 24hrs before the blood test.
