Hi

I know you should steer clear of taking Iron after T3 but what is the 'safe 'time to take Iron if you take your last dose of T3 at 3.30pm?- (I bought some from Boots 200mg)ment to be taken 3 times a day.

Also does anyone know if Selenium, Magnesium and Zinc have to be take hours later after T3 too?

Thank you

I was prescribed with iron tabs by an endo, he told me to take it at the end of the day, completely opposite to levothyroxine, as they react against each other. When I collected the prescription from my GP's it said, take 1 tablet three times a day! Anyway I just take two at night, The endo also said, I will ask your gp to take a blood test to check your levels (of iron) after eight weeks. Three months later I have not been asked to go for a blood test by my gp! I am amazed they even prescribed the iron tablets in the first place, without me bringing it to their attention! I only got the referral to an endo, because a new locum, was assigned to my practice! I have given up, and just resign myself to being told, "if you feel unwell, it's not your thyroid"!

Before I was given T3 I was on Eltroxin (T4) My Iron levels were dangerously low- so I was given the Iron from the GP- I was taking 200mg three times a day and it did help alot. With the Thyroid , I did start feeling much better.

Then I went the other way a couple of years down the line. I started taking T3 which made me feel alot better- but I had to push for it- like every one has to.

Most GP's and Endos are reluctant to give you what you want, I think there policy is to be stubborn unless you are armed with your reasearch and show your not willing to remain ill when you know there is a solution.- your thyroid can make you very ill if its not working efficiently.

wishing you luck xxx

I've heard that you shouldn't have iron or calcium 4 hours before or after thyroxin. Not sure about the others. I've been taking selenium 2 hours after. Since reading stuff on the net I usually leave 2 hours after taking the levothyroxine and drink about 2 or 3 glasses of water during that time. Sorry just reread your question and noticed you're on T3, have you tried googling your question? Hope my answer helps a bit. Best of luck xxx

Yes thank you it does indeed help.

It is so time consuming being on these meds when you have to plan your way round taking vitamin tabs and any thyroid preps.

I have my Calcium at 10pm well away from my T3 - my last dose of T3 is at 3.30pm. I took the Iron with the calcium last night and hoped for the best- that it did not react with the Iron.

Think I will do this from now on.

Take the others in the about 1.30pm so they help with the T3 but not interacting with it.

Thanks for your input xx
