TREATMENT FOR CROHNS - YIKES !.....and maybe some help....

......after a Colonoscopy last week it is apparent that Crohns is still active in the small bowel and the Gastro Man wants me to take SALOFULK for six months. I was diagnosed some 40 years ago and am symptom free and blood tests and scans done before the colonoscopy were all fine. Quite a mystery for him. I only had it done as older people should be checked for pre-cancerous polyps etc. and having Crohns puts me more at risk - I had nothing !! Another mystery for him ! My last Crohns surgery was some 30 years ago.

So my question is about this drug - I have checked the ingredients which seem full of nonesense - so is there a website where I can read about it and any problems beyond the manufacturers blurb ? I really do NOT want to take anything but feel Gastro Man is standing firm. Maybe I can ask for more time ! They do like their pills and potions here in Greece.....

I do wonder if my gut health has been helped by the thyroid treatment since 2005 and of course the D3 and B12. Also TRY to follow - if it doesn't grow - don't eat it ! I realise this is not directly a Thyroid question but as I have Hashimotos - then this is just another AID....no doubt with connections. Get the Biopsy results tomorrow evening and a 7.30pm appointment with Gastro Man.

Thanks everyone.........

Assuming this is what you mean:

Salofalk tablets, granules, suppositories, enema and rectal foam all contain the active ingredient mesalazine, which is a type of medicine called an aminosalicylate.

You may care you look at this link which identifies several salicylate issues - but it is always difficult to know how a general "this class of medicines tends to ...." statement applies to one specific example.

At any rate, do not ignore the possibility of it impacting on your thyroid side of things in more than one way. Might be insignificant; might not.

Hope it goes well...

If you have symptoms but don't want to take those meds, you might find Jini Patel Thompson'd site helpful - she has Crohns - listentoyourgut.com/
