I have just put "hives" in the search box at the top of this page and many past blogs and questions come up. Have a go and see what you can find out. I always use the search button when I want to find things out - it has proved very useful more than once and you can read at your leisure.
Hi Dan I also get hives and take fexofendine(?) daily, also use doublebase lotion & shower gel to keep skin moist. It keeps the really bad outbreaks at bay but certainly doesn't get rid of it completely.
My Doc says there is no reason for it but I believe it's another autoimmune thing, I've had it for more years than I can count however it's got a lot worse since being diagnosed hypothyroid 2 years ago.
Sorry I can't give any useful advice but just letting you know your not alone
hi lenny thanks for your reply, i think ive tried that before worked really well, now i use something called emulsifying ointment, keeps my skin smooth, i find that ointment tends to work better for me, but i used to shower with doublebase its really good, i have to agree with you i think there may be a connection, with autoimmune and hives, i think it does something to the sweat glands because i used to sweat loads, buckets, a un natural amount, to the point people would stare at me, then when i stopped sweating as much, the hives came back, its like the sweat glands were blocked so i was breaking out in hives, complicated stuff
your advice was really helpful thanks alot, nice to know am not alone, i'll think of you when im hiding from the sun in summer lol
I suffer badly with prickly heat / hives rash all over my chest and arms, so itchy and raw looking.
We booked a cruise to the Caribbeean and I was dreading a break out in the hot humid weather.
I did some research before I went, and most people were saying the same thing, take an antihistamine tablet once a day, starting a day or two before you go on holiday, and one a day for the duration of your stay, and to use Puiz Buin allery sun creams and aftersun lotion.
Combine this with taking cool showers to cool the skin as often as possible, and wearing breathable cotton clothing, I did all this and I can happily say I didn't have one outbreak, I had my first rash free holiday, and even managed to sit in the sun with no problems.
It may not work for everyone, and you must of course check with your doctor that you can take antihistimines with your medications, but it worked for me, and I can now look forward to hive free holidays in future.
hi louise, thanks for the reply, i can relate to all those feelings, i will try that, i have tried alot of things, but i am always open to new treatments, many thanks for this, and am glad your able to enjoy holidays again, i am gonna work towards that too
