Can anybody recommend good gynaecologist within West/ East Midlands area, or maybe London.. anywhere in UK.
I am suffering from terrible pelvic pain an I know that it is gynaecological problem however I do not exactly know what is causing this terrible pain. I need the treatment but I cannot seem to find any gynaecologist with good reviews- I am searching the internet for a couple of months now. I do not know doctors here.
I am desperate.
I am on ERFA and as for many women regulating thyroid hormones helps, in my case, I am experiencing pain every day and it does not get any better just worse... perhaps it is not triggered by hypothyroidism.
Any advice would be great. I looked for gynaecological forums in UK, I found only Endometriosis forum, where women are well informed about gynaecological surgeons. I am in need of general gynaecologist who could make proper diagnosis and advice the suitable course of action.
I am aware of having 3 cm fibroid on my uterus,however the fibroid of this size is unlikely to cause such terrible pain. I am really worried what is going on inside me.
... I am constantly taking co -codamol as I cannot tolerate NSAID's and other pain killers. Co-codamol makes my depression much worse.... Being in pain and taking painkillers does not help my thyroid, severe depression makes things much worse either so I am caught in a very vicious cycle.
Have you been to A&E lately Cupi? I went with Edyta on the four occasions when she had to go as the pain was too much. You could honestly have believed you were in a third world country! On the last visit Edyta was in pain but made to sit outside triage for nearly an hour while they attended to a teenager who had fallen off of a trampoline and cut his foot before a Somali nurse with a vague grasp of English attempted to take her blood between turning away every 30 seconds to cough violently (TB? who knows?) There was literally mud all over the floor! I expected cattle to be herded through at any moment! She was left hanging around for another few hours until she was given Morphine! left to rest and then sent home again with completely undiagnosed symptoms. It was a complete waste of time and a waste of precious energy on Edyta's part. I get so angry when I think about it. So in answer to your question, we have tried A&E. I have to stop typing as I'm getting really angry again! This damned country is a joke.
I have been ended up on A&E four times. They always check for appendicitis and it is not appendicitis. I have been told that as it is chronic pain I must go back to my GP and be referred to gynaecologist. I have seen NHS gynaecologist who was hopeless and said that often women pelvic pain is unexplained and I just have to live with it.

I would not ask for recommendations and advice before exploring the normal NHS route first. Well it is done and I did not achieve better results than people who are trying to find good NHS endocrinologist.

I used to work at the Marie Stopes clinic in London.They offer 'well woman' gynaecological checks at a reasonable cost and will refer to a hospital (NHS or private)if necessary for scans etc. (The clinic is not just for pregnancy issue). Ask for an appointment with a gynaecologist.Look them up on the internet as there may be a clinic near you.Also, Co codamol may not do you much good if you have hypothyroidism as it can make you very depressed. Ponstan is good for gynaecological pain.

Thank you Janjan. I will phone them. Unfortunately I can't take other painkillers, Ponstan is Mefanamic Acid and I am allergic to it.

I think if you can get the names of good gynaecological surgeons from the endometriosis site and they come recommended then you should just ask for a referral for one of them, and see if the GP sends you. It may be that, the best ones are all surgical. More chance that they know more about the inside workings anyway if they are looking at from that angle it on a daily basis. Certainly cant hurt to ask.
I know years ago when I had problems it was always surgeons I got sent to, I just assumed that was all there was and that they all did surgery.
I certainly wouldnt accept that excuse you were given about it being unexplained annd that you just have to live with it!! How awful!
Defo go back and demand to get sent to someone more competent.
Dr Williamson I think her name is at City Hospital, Birmingham. She specialises in menopause too..she is really nice lady and listens to you. Hope this helps.

Thank fedupsusie . I am fed up with this all. I tried to book appointments with two gynecologist recommended on endometriosis forum: Tim C. - Oxford - his is not available until May. The other one Chris M is off sick and they don't know if takes new patients.
Hi she isn't just a menopause consultant, I think she is an all round gynae too. Ring hospital secretary for her, I'm thinking you live in West Midlands? Another one is Dr Sani at Manor Hospital Walsall....
Low back pain can refer to the ileo psoas muscle around front making women feel it is an ovary because of the location. Are you sure it's a gynecological problem? You could try a therapeutic massage and see if it helps.
Thank you Heloise. I know that I have uterine fibroid on right side, it's pedunculated. The rights side is where the pain is located, hence possible connection with fibroid. I also have menstrual problems, and I am worried that I might have ovarian cysts. I am going to have an MRI scan of my pelvis ( lower abdomen ) on Monday. I was forced to do it privately. I will see of I have cysts or not and check if my fibroid is growing. When I gather more money I might try therapeutic massage. I have bad back ( scoliosis ) anyway. The pain is piercing through my abdomen and radiates to my lower back, so because I know of having existing gyneoc. condition then I have to see gynaecologist.
Edysia, I am aware of your difficulties and glad you are still corresponding along with Tony who sounds like a great friend.
It's interesting that you mention scoliosis because I was on Synthroid for years and slowly my back had so many trigger points and muscle tightness my last gp said I had the beginnings of scoliosis. Over the years I've learned about the ileo-psoas muscle and even doctors may think it is some organ in front causing the pain. Do you by chance have any lumps just below the waist around the spine? I think they are connection to thyroid muscle issues. If you do, they are called episacral herniations and can create pain by pressing against nerves.
Oh my, so many things can go wrong when not treated well for thyroid problems.

My scoliosis is not related to thyroid problems, I do not have episacral hernias either. However over the years scoliosis would progress slightly and that it is possibility of straining this muscle due to bad posture.
I understand that you have ileo-psoas muscles strained ? Do you feel pain inside your lower abdomen too?

I understand, Edysia. A lot of my pain is around the lumbar region and down the side of each leg but will wrap around and center where the ovary would be.
I did have a friend with large fibroids and went ahead with a hysterectomy. They were large enough to press on the bowel creating constipation and one had grown into the uterine wall so it was pretty serious. They often say they reduce in size after menopause but hers were too large to wait another ten years for that.
