I have had PMR for 4 years. Was on a reducing schedule of oral steroids until I had a flare up. The rheumatologist decided for a number of reasons, to use big fornightly steroid injections to bring down the inflammation and then to replace the steroids with methotrexate. During the weeks I was having the injections I experienced some extreme and scary hyper symptoms. This was the first time I had ever had these. I asked my GP if the steroid could effect my thyroid status and he didn't know. The problem disappeared when I stopped having the steroid jabs.

Ironically, shortly after this my GPcalled me in to look at odd thyroid test results. Several of his patients were becoming hypo, me included. It was due to faulty thyroxine. Ho hum.
