Thyroid blood tests

My daughter is having palpitations and wishes to get a thyroid blood test. What does she need to ask the doctor to test for? She is unsure if she could be over or under active. Any other information welcome. Thanks

You can have palpitations whether under or overactive.

Does she have any other symptoms of hypothyroidism/hyperthyroidism?

It is unlikely to make much difference what you actually ask for. You will get a TSH test and probably nothing else. (Yes - that is a pituitary hormone, not a thyroid hormone.)

The NHS usually only does more tests if the TSH value is out of their local reference range. And sometimes not even then.
