I think (but could be wrong) that Tiromel is the genetic name and citomel is branded.

(Beware if you are buying Tiromel from abroad as its sold to body builders and other numpties for weightloss that dont know what they are doing by taking it, and therefore there is a much larger chance of it being counterfeit )

Tiromel is a 'brand' and is from Turkey,

Cytomel is a 'brand' also by Pfeizer I believe, however you have to be 'careful' as many people say 'cytomel' on the website then they just mean T3 and send you 'any generic'

if it's very expensive it is possibly the real 'Cytomel'

as for the difference:

only by trying yourself you will know! nobody can tell you if there is a difference as we 'all' respond differently.

I was on Cynomel (by Grossman, mexican T3) and went onto UK Liothyronine (NHS one), many told me Liothyronine is 'weaker', some don't even respond to it at all, some feel 'sick' on NHS T3, I did not feel a difference whatsover! to me it's the same :D

Did you solve all your hypothyroidism issue like weight gain, water retention, etc?

Cynomel is what you would get from Mexico.

I wondered the same as babycatcher. I found this info on the comparative merits of various brands - more regarding strength than ingredients.

thyroid-rt3.com/which.htm

I am taking a very small dose of Liothyronine at the moment, but had already sent for some of the Mexican T3 in case my GP refused to prescribe, as he always has in the past when I asked about it. It appears from this info that the Mexican T3 made by Grossman, is the strongest (not sure I wanted the strongest!). It is VERY reasonably priced (as you will know, but no use if it doesn't arrive), and I was lucky enough to get mine within about 10 days - I saw your earlier post where Royal Mail messed up your delivery, and felt bad for you.

In theory, because T3 is licensed in the UK, unlike NDTs, you SHOULD be able to get it on the NHS, but as we know, many GPs will refuse because of the cost. My GP only agreed because my endo politely asked (ordered!) him to prescribe it. It might not be too much of a problem unless I am able to put the dose up considerably, but at the moment I am only taking a crumb as it's all I can tolerate. So what I've got will last a while, and I'm not costing them very much (my first private prescription cost over £70 for a small amount)

The Mexican T3 is also 25mcg as opposed to the UK 20 mg, is very slightly bigger and presumably easier to cut up without producing dust. I don't know how effective it is as I am still working my way through the Liothyronine. I may send for some more from Mexico before I actually need it, in case my GP changes his mind next time, which wouldn't surprise me.

The info does also mention Tiromel, which I believe comes from Turkey. They compare it to the Mexican T3 and various others.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Kanga that is a very useful piece of information and one I shall keep... The other links are great too. I am still waiting for Mexican t3 and have been taking Tiromel which my hubby sourced when I was desperate but have noticed no differences however I started cynomel this morning and differences can be felt already .... My basal temp was up to 37.1 and I didn't feel so battered when I got out of bed. My pulse has been a constant 80 bpm but I have been active today so I will stick with this though I do feel I may need to 1/4 the tabs thro the day.
