my relationship of 22 years (10 of those married) has just ended and as you can imagine i am under a LOT of stress and sadness, does anyone know if my emotional condition at the moment will affect my thyroxine working? I am getting the results of my latest blood test next monday.

AnnaMaria, Sorry to hear things are so bad for you just now. Relationship break downs are tough at any time, let alone when you're dealing with thyroid and associated problems :(

I've no info on whether stress noticeably affects your thyroid blood levels when on medication. But the thyroid condition itself does have quite an impact on our ability to deal with stress, especially if you are still trying to get your dose stable.

Co-incidentally, I just happen to have the following web page open:

Walnuts, walnut oil improve reaction to stress

A diet rich in walnuts and walnut oil may prepare the body to deal better with stress, according to a team of Penn State researchers who looked at how these foods, which contain polyunsaturated fats, influence blood pressure at rest and under stress.

Hi Annamaria,

Really sorry to hear your news. I can sympathise as im in a relationship well still married and lives in the same house but not in a relationship any more if you know what i mean. Its tough. and i know it plays havoc with adrenals i was told that by Dr P. Really look after yourself as you owe it to yourself and take it easy. Stay in touch.

So sorry to hear of your woes. Last year my stress levels were totally awol making me feel I was worthless. Then I learnt a few breathing exercises and that brought me to my senses. This year the amount of stress has been high but I am unnaturally calm though tummy is not. I am wondering whether my mind and body has given up worrying as it cant be bothered lol.. I nearly lost our house and farm this week.

I posted the question because I feel strongly that stress over years has resulted in me traveling a hugely impaired immune system. I have been reading a lot about the effects of stress. I just wish I had known all this when I wS younger before the stress had already affected me. What works for me is relaxation and breathing exercises. I love autogenic training. It's on utube, so is a lot of other stuff. Whatever works for you. However do make it a regular practice.
