Teva Liothyronine availability

Hi,

I have been prescribed Liothyronine (T3) by the NHS for 13+years. I always received Teva, but it was replaced first with Morningside T3 (I used Teva and Morningside together ) and now I have only Strides. I have never had a problem with any brand before: Strides contains mannitol - if this is my issue...

I spoke to the GP practice as I've had hypo issues and they issued a named brand prescription; Tesco, has not been able to fill it. The pharmacist states "they cannot guarantee what will arrive as the suppliers do not permit them to request named brands". I was aware but was also told "this affects a lot of people/various conditions".

So, does anyone know where I can get an NHS prescription filled for Teva Liothyronine 20 mcg? The pharmaceutical suppliers for Tesco are AAH and Alliance, the same AAH for Boots.

Thx

If your prescription states Teva T3 on it your pharmacy should dispense that brand

Here’s list of specialist pharmacies

thyroiduk.org/get-support/t...

Springfield should be able to supply

Ring to check

You have to pay P&P

Have you tried Asda pharmacy? I've found them to be better than Tesco, Boots and Rowlands.

Hello Yostie, I get my Teva T3 from Boots. Occasionally they try to give me another brand but when I point out the prescription states "Teva" they do manage to get it for me. It looks like they seem to have to tick a box on their screen for a specific brand.

Thank you. I can see today turning into a Teva hunt!

This applies to Levo not Lio but I would consider it relevant.

Concordet, D., Gandia, P., Montastruc, JL. et al. Levothyrox®

New and Old Formulations: Are they Switchable for Millions of Patients?

Clin Pharmacokinet 58, 827–833 (2019). doi.org/10.1007/s40262-019-...

"The excipients only were changed, with the replacement of lactose by mannitol and citric acid, both of which have been claimed by French authorities as excipients not known to have a recognised action on or to affect the administered dose of Levothyrox®NF [4].

Following this substitution and over 13 months of marketing the new formulation (from 27 March, 2017 to 17 April, 2018), as many as 31,411 patients had declared ADRs to the French network of pharmacovigilance centres, after switching from the old to the new Levothyrox® formulation; this number is approximately 1.43% of patients treated with Levothyrox®NF [3].

Most ADRs occurred shortly after this imposed change and the official pharmacovigilance review reported, for 1745 patients documented for their thyroidal status before and after the switch between the two formulations, that 23% were hypothyroid, 10% were hyperthyroid, while 67% were normal for thyroid-stimulating hormone status [1]."

I rang Teva UK this morning. After a long conversation I was told that Teva have a scheme for pharmacies to sign up to, so can then order direct. The prescription must state Teva and then they can be ordered direct. They were also able to tell me those pharmacies local to me that are signed up...I have found a new pharmacy I never knew existed less than 5 minutes away by car!

So, despite Tesco's making an error and not releasing the prescription electronically and having to drive back and forth twice between pharmacies ...I am told I will get it fulfilled tomorrow :)
